You know what, John? I haven't really followed up on it (not very interested in F50s and newer Ferraris, to tell the truth), but I haven't yet heard of a recovery. My guess is that the car is either overseas or lying very low in a barn somewhere awaiting shipment.
The last time I talked to the guys over at Algar it had not been recovered and it didn't seem like they expected it to be. This was back in the spring though.
The F50 in question, ZFFTG46AXS0103494, stolen 09/16/03, has not been recovered and it's highly unlikely that it ever will be. Two other cars, ZFFSA17A9F0059133, a red/tan Testarossa with 2,800 & ZFFXA20A6K0080120, a red/tan 328 with 34,000 miles were also stolen from dealerships in a similar manner. The TR was stolen on 07/15/03 from Gullwing Motors in Long Island City, Long Island, NY and the 328 was stolen on 04/26/03 from Sport Auto, in North Carolina. In North Carolina, the thief identified himself as Dr. Robert Montgomery. None of these cars have been found.
I would assume they have been stripped for parts right down to the paint and sold. Serial numbers? Well we know that game. Damn, sad.
HAHAHA! The way you describe it it sounds your John Walsh from America's Most Wanted describing a Kidnapping. That is great.
Am I the only one to wonder where they could have shipped it? In what part of the world doesn't a F50 get a wee bit of publicity?
According to the folks at Algar, there are several Middle Eastern destinations where the car would be driven without any question of ownership occuring. However, getting parts when it breaks is another thing altogether.
they could easily drive it in U.A.E. thats like the super car capital of the world or something. O and that would be ironic if the f50 in the pic below was the stolen one. Nice way to advertise. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I dug this thread out of it's grave....Any word on this car? I did a search and couldn't find anything.
If people would stop dredging this thread up, then I could finally take it out of the garage. But nooooooooooo...
In a private collection somewhere, likely outside the USA but not necessarily. The car will show up at some point... it's too rare and important to get chopped up. We will find the rest of the story..... some day.
most likely in the hands of someone whos in bed with the leaders of their country... they can probably drive it around and no qualms over it being stollen or not
Maybe, maybe not. In all probability Marcel or Tom will find it in a barn 20 years from now...maybe, maybe not. What a coincidence! I have a nice, factory miles F50 for sale. Refinished in Cosa Nostra over black with factory documentation and tools. VIN ZFFXXXXXXXXXXXXX. $550k, PM's if interested.
"SOMEONE" totaled their 50... Stole this car, removed the VIN and replaced it with that of the totaled car. Much cheaper than rebuilding !
Did a google search and found a post on *********** about another stolen F50 "June 8, 2001 F50 (Euro Model) #37 was stolen. Within 2 months it appeared in Japan. No doubt this one will also go there. Once in, the authorities will do nothing. As long as it never leaves the country, because if it ever does, it will be siezed." Anyone know anything about this?
ALL WRONG. Correct is: S/N 103794 with Assembly #20681 was sold NEW to the first owner, Mr. G. in Austria, November 28, 1995. It was Argento Nürburgring with seats with yellow inserts. G. sold it December 19, 1998 at the Brooks auction in Gstaad, Switzerland, to an English collector who wishes to remain anonymus. 2001 said Englishman had it repainted dark red. October 20, 2001, the Englishman was at Grand Hotel Villa d'Este in Como, Italy (NOT during the Concours!!) and that is where the F50 was stolen. It re-appeared in Japan in 2002, now repainted white. Still there. Japan does not co-operate when it comes to bringing cars back. The original owner is a personal friend of mine, besides that I was personally involved in the sale and I also have the police and theft reports. And I know the Englishman as well. Marcel Massini
