That is an AWESOME picture! I have never seen an F1, and doubt I ever will
I thought these might be appreciated.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Indeed! And can I just add that I love it when the owners of silver F1s do something unique to their car to make it easily identifiable from all the rest. That "McLaren F1" decal on the luggage door of Herb's car might not be original, but I like the fact that its there. >8^) ER
I just found this one. It looks tiny next to the 430, and I think thats a Ford Focus on the left...that's not a very big car either and it towers over the F1. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just have some from the racetrack, but I hope they're OK Pics were taken last year at the Nürburgring Martin Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Keep in mind the F430 is a pretty large car...similar to size of 360. The F355 is smaller than both and I was surprised to see the size difference at the local Fcar dealer back when the 360 first came out. The F1 is pretty small as well just like the F50.
That's a good point, the 430 isn't exactly an Elise. I was surprised at the size difference when I first saw the 360 compared to the 355, too....still have yet to see my all time favorite F50 on the ground (saw one on a lift once, couldn't really get a good feel of it's size...plus the back half was off)
Better pics of the F1 gathering at the MTC have arrived in the form of EVO Magazine's July 2010 issue which devotes 25 pages to the McLaren F1. I will of course be needing some alone-time once I finally get a copy in my hands. Here's some preview scans courtesy of microsup, but to truly enjoy this one you're going to have to shell out the $$. http://img684.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010ron1.jpg/ http://img194.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010ron2.jpg/ http://img30.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010h1.jpg/ http://img404.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010h1.jpg/ http://img29.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010h2.jpg/ http://img697.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010h3.jpg/ http://img571.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010h4.jpg/ http://img38.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010g1.jpg/ http://img263.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010g2.jpg/ http://img707.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010g3.jpg/ http://img715.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010g4.jpg/ http://img594.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010g5.jpg/ http://img522.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010g6.jpg/ http://img571.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010d1.jpg/ http://img32.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010d2.jpg/ http://img443.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010d3.jpg/ http://img687.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010d4.jpg/ http://img576.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010d5.jpg/ http://img163.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010m1.jpg/ http://img101.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010m2.jpg/ http://img27.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010m3.jpg/ http://img708.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010m4.jpg/ http://img97.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010u1.jpg/ http://img268.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010u2.jpg/ http://img225.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010u3.jpg/ http://img337.imageshack.us/i/evojuly2010u4.jpg/ Congrats to a certain someone on making the cover photo. That's 56XPGT - the prototype. By my count, 9 of the F1s at the gathering are owned by either McLaren, or Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh. That should be one of them. >8^) ER
So is it blue or just a weird camera affect making the green look different? It looks like there were 20 there, but I only see one of the Lark cars (possibly 14R). Wasn't 13R there as well? What chassis #s do you think the 20 are that are set together in 5s at the bottom of the pages?
Across the bottom of pgs 76-79 in the EVO issue are: #061, #059, GTR 07R, GTR 12R, #003, #001, GTR 13R, #075, 56XPGT, XP1 LM, GTR 20R, XP5, GTR 14R or 16R*, #069, GTR 04R (presumed), GTR 10R, #020, GTR 14R or 16R*, GTR 01R, #050. * With 14R or 16R, there is just not enough detail in those two shots to make the distinction between the two. Two LARK GTRs are depicted, but keep in mind that 14R no longer wears it's LARK livery. Missing from that lineup at the bottom of those pages, but certainly present at the event, was flemke's #040. Wonder why they left it out? You'd think if they were going to neglect to include a car it would have been the repeat of the LARKs as opposed to his very unique F1. = = = = = 56XPGT is definitely green - the chassis history poster lists the color as "Silverstone Green". Below is probably the best pic to show off its color. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't believe I didn't notice both LARK livery cars there, LOL! They don't look familiar with that front bumper. Was 13R wearing #60? It doesn't look like the normal 13R for some reason...looks "blank" all around with very little in the form of logos.
Yes, #13R is the '60' car. I think there is some law in the UK or Europe that prevents driving around on the road with racing numbers on the car - at least I recall reading that somewhere. Seems kind of silly. Also, earlier I mentioned that it was 25 pages of F1 content, but apparently when you add it all up there are 42 pages in the magazine devoted to the car. Now I am super eager to see what has not been shared yet via those scans. >8^) ER
I was giving it a little more thought over dinner and the F1 I had pegged for chassis #069 in the lineup is probably a different car. I have a strong feeling now that it might be chassis #006 instead. For starters, the top of the steering wheel appears to be a very light color and also the car has the optional HIDs fitted - two things you will not find on chassis #069. Also, if you read the pages of EVO discussing 'Harold's Workshop' there is this snippet: That sure sounds like the story I have heard from another source of a car purchased by the family that owns the ZAZ Museum, and I have been told that car is chassis #006. A few years ago they did sell their road car - chassis #053 which was white - and #006 is supposed to be replacing that. If it was still in the UK at the time of the MTC gathering it would make sense that they would bring it out. Here's the image from the lineup at the bottom of page 78. The details mentioned should be even clearer when I get my hands on the real magazine but I think I am on to something. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought we didn't know about the fate of 14R and whether the other LARK car was that one/04R? Just that it was presumed 04R was more likely to be the other one?
Well that was true and now it's not, but the discussion hasn't continued publicly yet hence some people still being in the dark I guess. Sorry about that. The orange GTR regularly seen wearing the 'M66 MCL' plate is definitely GTR 14R - I can now say I am positive of this. That leaves GTR 04R as the only valid possibility in my mind for the second LARK GTR which wears the #61 on the doors. There's really no other GTR it can be given that the other 17 with the standard body type are accounted for. Hopefully someone who is willing to talk will get their eyes on the chassis plate in that car this year and finally settle it all. If my presumption does turn out to be true then 04R will have been rebuilt to 1996 GTR-spec when it was put back together, likely with a new tub underneath it as the original one was heavily damaged. >8^) ER
Corrcet, at least here in Sweden, but to be honest i never read about it, but when i did drive my race Alfa GTV to the races people adviced me that i had to tape over my racing number with an X.
Here are links to the remainder of the preview scans. Nearly 50 pages in total of amazing F1 content in one issue! Thanks for these again go to microsup! I'm sure that I am not the only one here who can not wait to get a printed copy in my hands so I can really enjoy what they have put together here.
