I crashed mine a couple weeks ago with only Minor damage to the floor pan assembly (basically a couple small holes through the floor the size of a quarter). Hit a 12" bolder on the highway doing 65 mph. The car flew about two feet in the air and landed nicely on all four wheels. This car definately handles like a CAT!!! Turned it into my insurance Company and because of a Nevada state statute that states the car must be salvaged if the floor panels need to be replaced, it must now carry a rebuilt title! This sux!! So I'm cashing in with no by back. She is now being sent to a salvage yard @ 10k miles. So take SN 135699 off the list.

Robert, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, and it's very nice of you to provide this information for the community. But I'm so happy that you're okay. When it's all said and done, this is just another one of life's experiences. But if you didn't make it out alive, or came crawling from a jagged pile of twisted metal and broken glass, that wouldn't be a nice experience. So I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'm glad you're okay.

Do you have plans to get another one? Do you still have the warranty card/book from this one...?

Thank you for your thoughts! I am still not sure if I'm going to keep her with the salvage title or take the money and shop for a replacement. I need to make my decision on Tuesday. Yes! I still have all the paperwork on my car.

Glad to hear you came out of the ordeal unscathed. I also wish you the best of luck with replacing it whether you keep it or get a new one. The CS prices have dropped quite a bit, and it is a soft market so I have no doubt you'll be able to replace it if you should go that route.

Robert, very sorry for the loss but glad you are here to type away on FCHAT..... I disagree with Pete on the pricing issue. If you have an educated underwriter, he should look at the fact that CS prices have INCREASED in the past year. Economy has not affected that pricing and you need to educate your underwriter to that fact. Sure there are CSs in the $180k range, but they are sitting with 15k to 20k in miles. The CSs under 10k are still in the $190k to $210k range. Make sure yhey give you the right number!

    Good luck!

I had a incident with a Porsche Cayenne and the insurance company said they don't let the insured buy back vehicles that are salvaged. I didn't want the thing back but the tow facility wanted to buy it from me.

If he has agreed value coverage, that shouldn't be an issue.

    Robert,
I bet you were going up the Mt Rose hwy.

I have been a party in 2 totaled cars in the last 6 or 7 years here in Reno. In both instances the cars were not actually damaged nearly as much as you would think.

The first one was an 11-year-old Infinity Q45 that had paint sandblast damage from a big windstorm. From 5 ft away the car looked perfect. The ins co offered me 4700 and they take the car or 4400 and I keep the car, but with a salvage title. I kept the car, pocketed the 4400 and sold it to a friend for 4500 (full disclosure on the salvage title). My friend is still driving the car 7 years and 80,000 miles later.

The second car was a 1998 3 series BMW Convertible. One of my girls was driving it when a 16yr old in a giant pickup made a left in front of her and she hit it. The air bags did not deploy, but the front end was popped in a bit. The ins company offered me (including sales tax by the way) 16500 and they keep the car or 11,000 and I keep the car. I let them have the car.

Make sure you hear both numbers and make sure that they include sales tax in their numbers.

    Good Luck,
    Tony in Reno

    Tony,

I was driving on N. Upper Truckee road in Meyers, CA. Two lane road very similar to mt Rose highway. My car will still make a very good track car for someone, so I might take the salvage money and sell the car. My body Shop estimate is around $5-6k to fix it. I will let eveyone know on the chat what I decide to do Monday evening. Thank you for the sales tax tip. I'm with Farmers, I haven't seen the final number but my agent called me with a verble number of around $210k with tax included. This would seem to be a fair market value price for a 10k mile CS.

    Thanks,

    Robert

Fchatters, on the whole (with some past exceptions) tend to be more ethical. First, sorry for the loss and wow, I'm glad you were not hurt. Second, thanks for doing the ethical thing and telling FChat about it so the serial # is kept track of.

Third, it might be worth more financially to take the 15% deduction and keep the car with a "salvage" title then sell the car for 15% + a small markup to someone on FChat who could turn it into a track car, preferrably someone who's not a "sideline" dealer who will try to "make money" but someone who will fix it and drive it like Enzo intended.

Unfortunately, wouldnt be me as I usually hang in the 308/328 section as its all I can afford, but surely someone on the list would want a good track car.
