Been thinking about buying either a 308 QV or a 328. It's gonna be my first Ferrari purchase so I thought I would be a little frugal to start. Any thoughts of which is better for the "novice". Also, I live in the Tampa area...who's good to deal with (price and service)? I'd appreciate any advice you guys may have for me.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I think both cars are good choices. The 328 is a bit more refined and faster. They are both reliable and cheap to maintain as far as Ferraris go. Keep in mind that interior dimmensions are tight for bigger drivers and the AC systems do little to keep you cool. Thank god its not hot down here in Florida! Check out Cavallino motors.....small dealer down in South Florida with reasonable prices and a great reputation. (cavallinomotors.com)

    Mike,
the carb cars require more attention and have totally different personalities than the 328's. 328's are for the most part more reliable, but not very easy to work on yourself given the computer and fuel injection. the sounds and viseral feel of the old carb cars really " does it" for me. please bear in mind i prefer the relative simplicity of the carb cars as they harken to my experience with LOTS of muscle cars. i work on business jets and i dont enjoy coming home to fight with more computers and wiring when i get home! there was/is a very nice 328 in the Orlando area that kept catching my eye , as its red with cream interior. if i bought a 328 it MUST be a GTB. i guess i am wierd! :) good luck with your hunt, post your questions here as there are many owners here who may be able to help you.

    Thanks for the plug Rammer!

My take is, either one of them is fine. As Rammer said, the 328s are a bit more refined yet also more expensive. If you want tog et infected with ferrari but try to first see if that works for you (and no matter what happens if does work, we are all convinced of that and convinced our wifes) you may want to be looking into a 308. QVs are a great choice in my opinion since they are very reliable through the injection system and give good power. True though that when the computer goes you have electrical problems at hand.

For service in your area there are I believe a few shops. In the Sarasota area you will find Luciano who is excellent. Paul Sloan can give you their address.

My suggestion is to drive both!

    Best,
    Martin

I have an '84 308 with 65,000 miles. Bought it 3 years ago with 41,000 miles. absolutely no problems aside from regular maintennance and of course wear and tear items. Just replaced a steering rack for instance. Actually she runs better now than when I first bought her. Although the 328's are more refined and more power, I prefer the more retro look of the toggle switches inside and also the exterior look is more "curvy" where the 328 seems more rounded off.If you have any specific questions let me know.

Thanks for all the advise guys. You have confirmed my feelings on the subject. I like the idea of carbs, Carkeeper, because I have also had my share of the muscle cars (mostly Mustangs). And I also tend to agree with Sindo...I also believe the 308's are nicer to look at than the 328's. Well off to the hunt then. I've heard alot of good things about Cavallino Motors as well, so expect a call real soon from me Martin. Take care guys...again thanks

    Mike
