I'm checking/refurbishing my Fiamm horn compressor and found out the top cover cap "O" ring has shrunk from age and is hard as a rock. I'm sure I can find a hardware store replacement. I read that a light oil like WD-40 is best to lube it, correct?

But, its so covered with overspray from a PO car re-paint I'd like to know if anyone out there knows what the original color(s) is suppose to be. Only the round clamp bracket seems to be the original cadmium plated finish and that actually looks brand new.

Anybody have a picture of theirs in original condition?

    Thanks,

    Bob R.

I think WD-40 might be a little too light and "disappear" quickly. I would try a very light oil.... maybe sewing machine oil.

Don't know about the original color or have a photo.

Go to any store (Home Depot or the like) that sells air tools and buy some Pneumatic oil. That's the right stuff for lubricating a vane type horn compressor like the Fiamms.

    Great pictures Dave. Thanks!!

I see my horns are not the same length as yours. Does anyone else have longer horns like mine? I wonder if mine were changed out at some point? My horns currently were facing downward but I think they should be facing forward based upon the sheetmetal cutout we both have. I may try to find some shorter replacements. How long are yours (just the red plastic part)?

Yes, I know....I need some black undercoating touch ups too.

WD 40 is NOT a lubricant! It's a cleaner. I use Marvel Mystery Oil on my Fiaam horn about once a year.

According to the manufacturer it is and it feels slippery-ish to me.

"WD-40, everyone's favorite multi-purpose problem solver for over 50 years, cleans, lubricates and protects against corrosion. It also removes grease, gum, dirt, adhesives, & scuff marks. Enjoy the popular, newly expanded Official List of 2000+ Uses for WD-40."
