After draining all the fuel out of the tanks (separate thread) I decided to replace the Fuel Pump and Accumulator. One of those, "while I'm in there" kind of repairs. This was fairly easy and I had good input from the guys here at the forum prior to taking this on. I'd like to share my experience.

Part numbers for my 86 328 are:

    a) Fuel Pump (Bosch) 0580-254-947 ($140.00 at local german parts store)
    b) Fuel Accumulator (Bosch) 0438-170-004 ($129.00 same location)
    c) You'll need a new rubber hose for the Fuel Pump. I used Weatherthread Fuel Injection rubber hose 5/8" ID 350 psi ($1.99 per foot). This is a really strong hose and is a perfect fit. I used about 16" length. Replaced with brand new SS German clamps (good clamps are a must {got them for $0.89 each})
    d) You'll also need a 1/4" ID fuel hose, about 36" to connect from the back of the Accumulator to the top of the portside fuel tank. Again, very cheap per foot.

    Here's what I did:

NOTE: Again, I drained all the fuel from my tanks for this project(another thread). Wear eye protection.
    1) Disconnect Battery
    2) Disconnected the nuts that attach the (+) and (ground) of the Fuel Pump (accessible underneath the car).
    3) Disconnected the braided SS hose that connects from the Accum. to the fuel filter mounted on the wall. Fuel will come out of the filter and the SS hose, so catch this in a drip pan. About 8 oz will come out (not a lot). Access for me was from the Wheel Well - you can reasily reach in. Also accessible from below.
    4) Then, I simply loosened the 3 nuts from the top of the "triangular" plate that holds both the Fuel Pump/Accum. (easily accessible from the wheel well).
    5) Once the 3 nuts are removed, the entire plate with the Fuel Pump and Accumulator can come off.
    6) I disconnected the rubber fuel hose that connects from the bottom of the portside fuel tank to the fuel pump. (again, my tanks were empty of fuel). I also removed the 1/4" rubber hose that connects from the back of the Accumulator to one of the vent pipes above the portside fuel tank. The 1/4" hose connects to the middle (of 3) vent pipe.
    7) Once you have the entire assembly out, it is easy to remove the brackets holding the fuel pump and the fuel accumulator without damaging the plate or the other connections between the fuel pump and the accumulator.
    8) After cleaning all the hardware, I put the new Fuel Pump and Accumulator on the bracket. I used brand new copper washers to make sure I had a good seal on the fuel pump. The other tubes (braided stainless steel between accum and filter and also the "S" connection from pump to accum.) were in good shape and did not need replacing.
    9) Used new clamps to hold the new Fuel hose to the fuel tank-fuel pump location.
    10) Fuel filter can also be easily replaced during this time but I did not do it as the one I had was new.

NOTE: It's a great feeling to have these new units in, although the older (probably original) ones were still okay. Difficulty scale is about 2 out of 10. You will need some socket extensions and socket swivel attachment to make it really easy. I also used hose pliers to remove the hoses without damaging the tubes on the fuel tank. USE good hose clamps!

Hope it helps someone in the future.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you have to lift the car up and remove the Left Rear wheel and wheel covers to do this! Minor point, but may not be obvious to some.

I am thinking of replacing the pump on my 328 but the part number I have seen published is 0580 254 975, and I have also seen Bosch part number 69532 mentioned. Is the part number you mention on the pump you have removed ?

Yes, both part numbers are from the old parts removed so I replaced them with the exact part numbers. No problems at all. I believe I saw a different Bosch part number for the Fuel Pump on the 308, but same part number for the Fuel Accum.
