I recently removed mine also. Used the procedure you have so carefully described.

I hope you do not mind me adding another step to this before re-installing.

While you have the unit out I would highly recommend that you take a soldering gun and touch up the round solder points on the board. By adding this solder it should help to eliminate any malfunction due to something shorting out.

No guarantees but mine has been back in the car for about a month and I have not had any errors.

Nice write up Raymond. The pictures are a very nice touch. Thanks for the acknowledgement. This is what Ferrari ownership is all about. Helping each other so that we don't get our pockets picked at the dealer. Now that you know how easy it is, can you imagine paying $120 an hour to do what you did in minutes? Then they would have tried to sell you a brand new unit. It's a crime I tell you, a crime.

So hows it working now? I suspect just fine.

I'll tell you ernie, without this board I probablly wouldn't even own the car. Yes working good so far. All my solder connections looked, nice and shiny, no cold points so I didn't touch them, but I understand this can be an issue to.

Hi thanks for the pics. But the wires behind the controls have been cut and resoldered using different color codes. they do not match with the factory colors. I would like to send the panel to a shop and have them fix and connect all the wires to the panel and send it back, whichI will then connec to the harness coming from the car.

You guys are fantastic, I'll be home tomorrow and will give it a try. Because it is intermittent, I'm betting on the corrosion behind the panel, but I'll try recycling the battery first. Thanks again. I'll post the outcome.

Keep in mind that intermittment A/C problems can also be caused by electrolysis. Have you flushed and filled your radiator recently? Seriously. Not flushing and filling can affect your "ground" connection for your whole car...giving electronics much grief.

I wanted to find out if there is any new info on this, read noDoubt's section, didn't find anything on how to by the same unit at Audi for $300.
Wishful thinking, let me know if anything has changed, even someplace that rebuilds them. I think they are around $2,000 new, if I have too so be it, just wanted to ask.

Mine was completely on the blink. None of the functions were working and the wiring loom from the back had been removed with wires individually exposed.
Ferrari tec. gave up before even opening the panel.
Had the panel fixed in less than $700. Works like brand new now.

Great site! I have just bought my first ferrari 348ts 1991! The car drives great, but not so good for the electronics. I have no clock or anything else in the climate control unit that works....I have checked all fuses and they seem ok. Is there an easy way to check if the power is getting to the unit??
    Any help is appriciated!
    Ciao

Congrats on the 348 Serafino. Welcome to the 348 Brotherhood. :):)
Your problem is a common one for 348's. Have you checked ALL the fuses? Even the 'hidden' fuse in the front trunk compartment? :) You could also try disconnecting the plug out of the back of the control unit, then plug it back in and see if it works. I did that once to mine when it was not working and it fixed it. :):)
