My speedometer and odometer has just stopped working on my '91 348! where should i start to look? thanks

The usual culprits are a bad connection behind the pod...or a bad speed sensor in the tranny. Both are easy/cheap to remedy.
I agree with what NoDoubt said. 1) Remove the two screws on the bottom corners of the instrument pod. Now lower the steering column all the way down. Do this by pulling the lever under the column down and towards you. Now get ahold of the sides of the instrument pod and POP it straight up. There is nothing else holding it in place, so if it doesn't come up don't worry, it may be stuck on the rubber trim on the bottom. But a good POP will get it off. Just don't get too excited with the force, we don't wanna bust the wind shield. Anyway once you have it off you will have access to the back off the connection to the speedo. Make sure that that are hooked up properly. It will also be a good time to check and see that all your warning bulbs are hooked up and working. 2) If #1 doesn't check out then it's the sending unit located on the drivers (left hand drive) side of the gearbox. You will want to first make sure that the connection is clean and hooked up properly, and then the wires are in good condition. If not then it's time to order a new sending unit for replacement. That is also something that you can changed your self. all you need to do is get the rear of the car in the air, drain the gearbox oil, then using a deep socket remove the old sender and replace it with the new one. Are you saying that the speedometer and odometer WERE working correctly, and that they both completely stopped working at the same time? And everything else seems to be working correctly? I doubt that the sending unit would go dead all at once (that's not the typical symptom), but it's possible that it's come unplugged. You should allso check the wiring twist connector by the top of the left rear shock tower, in the engine compartment. The two wires that control the speedometer signal run through this connector.
Turns out it was the sending unit in the tranny. Couldn't get a 348 unit quickly so had a 355 sensor installed and just changed the connector which is different to the 348. Would have thought this part would be identical.
