I just blew another manifold for my 355, and I'm choosing between two options: Ferrari replacement manifolds or tubis. I've heard good and bad about both.

I've also heard and read a lot about having the broken manifold fixed, but I've have heard bad stories about that too.

I would greatly appreciate any personal experiences or knowledgeable input.

Give Mike or Phil a call at QV. They'll stand behind their products and, in my experience, will work with you to get it right if needed.

I went with Tubi, with no problems. I would certainly reccomend them over any other alternative.

They did a beautiful job on the replacement of all 8 tubes with thicker wall tubing .015 vs .012 using 304 stainless and they utilized the solid factory heat shield with a quality re-welding job. I think the factory heat shield vs the Tubi heat shield is better for the alternator life but that is just gut feel. I drove the car today and it ran beautifully. I don't think the extra $3000 you spend on Tubi is worth it. I did spend an extra $2300 on the Hyperflow CATS but I can't tell any difference from the production CATS that were on (Power or Noise) so that may not have been worth it either but I figure it couldn't hurt if I'm having a CAT failure (The local Ferrari dealer said I had one that was weak).

    that's my 2 cents worth

I don't have a 355 but have followed this problem with some interest as I may own one someday.

My only question is why would anyone replace their headers with OEM when they are a known weak link (at least not more than once!!). Please don't take any offense at this but isn't that the defintion of insanity..to keep doing the same thing but every time expecting a different result? It's really too bad Ferrari won't step up to the plate on this one!!!

Dave glad to see you got yours back up and running!!

The Tubi website lists the 355 header as being sold without a heatshield only. Is this incorrect, if so may we see a photo of the Tubi header. I'm looking forward to getting a Tubi silencer but expect that soon thereafter I'll be replacing the headers secondary to non-factory exhaust compnent fitment differences.

After doing a LOT of research with many calls to dealers and other non-authorized (but excellent) Ferrari service centers, I found out that the London QV rebuilds are the best, the Quicksilver ones are identical and cost almost twice the price, the Tubi's don't appear to have enough heat shielding to protect wiring and other, and the OEM's are complete JUNK.

    QV London:
These rebuilds have gotten a thumbs up from everyone who has used or installed them. I have not heard of any breaking - they use quality pipes and do quality work. The cost is 600 pounds sterling each including shipping to the US. The warranty is 5 years. There is no core charge but they ask you to send back your old headers so they can use the shielding and fittings for future rebuilds.

    Quicksilver:
These are from England as well - they were at one time affiliated with QV London and they are built to the same specs. These are resold in the US for almost $2000 each and include a 25 year warranty. There is a $1000 core charge unless you send your old headers to them first.

    TUBI:
Tubi makes a good product, but after talking to people, they would be better suited for cars without cats that do not drive in traffic, because they have very minimal (if any) heat shielding. I did not come across any bad stories, but I am told from mechanics who have installed these that they do not fit perfectly and need to be fiddled with to fit on your car. These cost more than the other two options and are only warrantied for 1 year.

    OEM:
These are complete JUNK - do not buy them or let anyone else you know buy them either. They now come with NO warranty and cost $3400 each.

I hope this helps others to choose what's best for them.

P.S. As a note, my replacements from QV should be here by the end of the week and I should be up and running - thanks to all who helped with advice.

im sorry that last post on tubi is incorrect

I had tubi on my car some 2 years ago, fitted by a ferrari dealer who has fitted 15 sets of these.

they all fit PERFECTLY, where did you get this information??

they have heat shielding and when we tesetd heat soak into engine bay-- no difference!!.

If you see how tubi are built yoiu will understnd why they are expensive.

QV although accetpable are not built to the same standard at all!!

are there any quality people left responding on thsi site at all??

time to leave it i think!!

For the record I am a private owner with 2 f cars and had tubi fiited to both, 1 with manifolds. If the capristo exhaust was available at the time I would probably have got tyhe capristo.

Hope the little boys are happy now.

Ditto what 355f says and here is a name to go with it.

I have held back responding to many of these posts because I do not have hard data to offer. When a post like yours comes up, it is time to at least throw some more information out.
    1) How many headers on 355's have you personally done to make these statements?
    2) How many differant brand headers have you installed on 355's?
    3) Are you one of the folks that says it takes 2 hours a side to do the 355 header replacements?
    4) Are you one of the folks that says that a 355 Tubi (or pick the brand) muffler can be properly installed without removing the rear bumper?

I could go on and on with the questions.
Last time I got a bit un-nerved in a responce I got beat up bad, but the advise being given would have led to total engine destruction!
    Here are some hard facts.
    1) I have never installed any QV manifolds, nor have I cut any apart to inspect the workmanship.
    2) I have at least 3 "rebuilt manifolds" in the pile of junk 355 headers in the shop.
    3) I wish I could remember how many Tubi headers I have installed but simply stated, I do not remember. At least 5 sets in the last 7 months so that will give an idea.
    4) Out of all the Tubi headers installed not a single one has fit anything less than perfect!
    5) Anyone that thinks the OEM headers are a perfect bolt on without readjustment of the cats / bypass pipe / muffler is mistaken.
    6) The "no insulation / heatshield" claim on the Tubi's is totally baseless!
    7) I have never run a pyrometer on the Tubi headers, but the covering used will heat transfer far less than any stainless cover.
    8) Of all the headers I replaced under the warr. period, very few, if any, were paid for by Ferrari. There were a number of sets of Tubi installed on cars that were still in warranty.
    9) The headers have an attached (intergral) air pump / injection rail. This by any defination of the word is an emissions control devise. Saying the headers are not emissions devises is simply not fact by the defination of the design.
    10) I toured the Tubi factory thanks to Franc at Tubi USA. We met up with Franc one evening while in Italy for training on the 360's at the factory. He was kind enough to arrange for a gaggle of tech's from the US to barge in and disrupt production at Tubi. They had a whole wall of engines (name it and it was there) that they used for jigs and R&D, not some traceing of a port layout. I watched a Tubi worker that was un happy with a weld she had done, stop and grind out the weld and redo it. NO ONE was standing over her shoulder telling her to do it! I can only guess the workers are paid on a piece part basis, so if you want a defination of "Pride in Workmanship", this is it.
    11) I do not, and have never worked for Tubi. I am a Tubi dealer and have recieved FREE pens, a clock, and some coffee cups from Tubi USA after buying a crap load of Tubi headers (sorry Franc, I had to disclose this)
    12) Sound is a personal preferance and is a subjective thing. At the request of a customer I installed a muffler that he supplied. I was told it was a QuickSilver but there were no markings on it to verify the claim. I took the time to weigh the QS muffler, a Tubi muffler that was sitting on the floor waiting for install and a OEM muffler being thrown away because it was full of broken Cat matrix. The Tubi showed a substancial weight reduction over the OEM muffler but was heavier than the QS by somewhere around 5 pounds.
    13) The QS muffler sounded too hollow for my preferance. Sort of like a coffee can over the end of a straight pipe (YES, I have done this to qualify for a race with a car over the sound limit, yet tough to get through tech and it was a Libby's fruit can) The customer is happy with the sound of the QS muffler so here is the subjective part.
    14) While at the dealership I recieved a Tubi muffler that had the tail pipes less than perfectly aligned (around 1997 I think). A call to Franc at Tubi USA and his reply is "can you fix it where it looks perfect? If not, I will have another shipped free of charge today" After assuring Franc that I could put a small cut in the pipe, TIG weld it and polish the welds as Tubi does, he gave autho to repair. The reimbursment check for this work was recieved at a speed that amased the Service Manager at the dealership.

Tubi builds products that set the standard that all others on the market are judged by. The names Tubi and Ferrari go together and is much the same as Zerox and the office place. This quality comes with a price tag. Thats the beauty of the world we live in, if you want the best product available you can buy it. If cost is more of a concern and the budget doesnt allow the best there are other choices.

Standing ready to get beat to a pulp,
