I replaced my silver 2000 550, with a black 2002 550 which I picked up today. Took the car straight from the dealer to the dyno, will post pics and dyno graph tomorrow.

Yes, I love black cars, just a pain to keep clean, but at least it matches the E55 now.

    Is your 02 a 550 or a 575?

    So doesn't that make it a '01 550?

i assume that would make it an '01 if it was built in june or thereabouts.

check the VIN year digit - that'd be the official, unambiguous model year.

of course it makes NO difference in the cosmic scheme of things. we all just need something constructive to do with our time instead of nitpicking silliness like this :)

Not in Australia. The car is registered as an '02 as that is when it was complianced and registered here.

    Intriguing.

So if a dealer received a Ford Focus from the factory in 1998; and it proceeded to sit on the dealer's lot for a long time; and someone then bought it and registered it in 2002; then that someone would be able to resell it a day later as a "2002 Ford Focus" instead of a "1998 Ford Focus"?

That smacks of fraud. If I were a conniving gent, I could get a dealer license in Australia, buy cars, drive them on dealer plates, and then sell them as brand new (mileage excepted) current model cars a year or two later?

How does your VIN system work down under? Is it not like the US system with a digit for the model year?

    Confused,
    Doody

There is a two stage intake manifold. The car runs a little rich, so BMC filters should give a healthy power increase just by leaning out the mixture. I will be getting the ECU updated next week, so will have useful before and after graphs. The mid muffler also has a largish restriction on the intake that gives 10-15hp when replaced. I think 540-550hp is a realistic power goal with exhaust, intake and ECU mods.

that dip is decidedly bizarre. my stock 550 dyno runs didn't look anything like that.

composite graph attached. fwiw, this is from a Dyno Dynamics dyno: http://www.ktrmotorsports.com/dyno.html .

or is your car already not stock?

What was your reading, about 370rwhp? This wasn't much more -390rwhp, equal to around 420hp on a Dynojet.
This was car is stock other than Tubi mufflers. AFR's adrop from 13.2 to 1 at around 4000rpm to 12 flat at the rev limiter, so there is plenty of power available leaning out the mix. I'm doing a few mods next week and will be back on the dyno at the end of the week.

please keep us posted on the mods.

my car has tubi mufflers as well - sorry - should have stated that. june or july 1999 build car. it has never had any other sort of mod besides the tubi.

that dip in your graph is very odd. i've seen other 550 dyno charts, and have never seen such a thing on those either. what exactly ar eyou're attributing it to? you're not concerned it's an anomaly/problem?

i have the stock central tunnel, but have considered replacing it with the stebro or new tubi unit. are you planning to replace that?

what sort of ecu mods are you looking at? from who?

    best,
    doody.

I have seen the dip before on other 550 graphs so am not really concerned. I will look more closely after tuning. From experience the centre muffler has a fairly large restriction at the intake and a pair of stainless resonators does a much better/cheaper job than a crossover pipe.
I am doing dyno work with Powerchip on my E55 next Friday, so will have the car remapped at the same time. I will have before/after graphs for direct comparison.
