Would have to agree with your evaluation. While the model is not perfect and I would have preferred all diecast body components it's still one of the finest finished and best detailed models I've seen. Clever touches like the magnetic catches to hold the front hood and engine cover in perfect alignment show clever engineering. The common complaint about weakness in the engine cover hinges is legitimate and much care must be taken to avoid breakage during assembly. All in all, and slight weaknesses set aside, one very impressive showpiece.

    Greg,

Totally agree, the model is not worth $625.00. If shopped, it can be bought for $300.00 to $350.00 which is what I paid for mine. At that price, it's quite impressive.

I am contemplating of buying one but pretty concerned about its assembly due to the comments on this thread. However, I conveyed this message to the shop and they offer to assemble for me at no extra costs so if anything breaks then I am not liable. What do you think?

Zane, I spend only 20 minutes to build the car.
What you have to do is :
1 - fit the rear hood. Yes, the hinges are VERY fragile but if you are careful, no problem.
2 - fit the front hood and return the car to put the screws. Yes, the screws are VERY small but if you are meticulous, no problem neither.
3 - fit the four wheels with bolts : no difficulties here.
    That's all !

And whenever you open the rear hood, the particularity of the ABS body is that you have to wring the rear part to fit perfectly the hood. The first time, you believe that you are going to break something on the car, but when you get into the habit of doing that, that's OK.

So, conclusion is that the Enzo is VERY fragile, even after the assembly, but if you are aware of that, you won't have any surprise. And the model is SO BEAUTIFUL once mounted !!!

Dont want to put you off the model but just warn you of its poor quality workmanship.

I purchased one some months ago for way over the odds. It arrived and was not fastened to the plastic base usually under the polystyrene. The bonnet did not sit flush i.e. it sat about 2-3mm too high. The rear licence plate had snapped off as had some brake ducts etc. The tailgate had its hinges in place and when carefully fitted, when lifted it flopped all over the place, very very strange design. i contacted the supplier and he asked me to send back so i did.

We agreed that he would send me a pre-assembled one. This came and the little magnets on either side under the tailgate had snapped off. The hinges were in fact broken in the tailgate area and worst of all, the front suspension had collapsed and the caliper etc was just floating around. This all meant the car sat at an angle. I contacted the supplier again and he told me to again send it back. By this time, he was having several complaints from many dissatisfied customers (only for this model). He told me i would need to wait about 3 weeks for the replacement to come in so i did. We both agreed that i would drive to his place, some 250 miles away to agree that we were both happy.

Three weeks later, i sent him an e-mail asking if he had the delivery to which he replied "I sent it to you yesterday". I thought well thats not what we agreed and i bet this one is knackered as well.

it turned out to be fine, only one thing missing was a brake duct or something. The tailgate still wobbles around but apparently thats the way they are.

Just a word of warning, it may be worthwhile to inspect before you buy. Tamiya mucked up big time of this cheap-ass nasty model. I've got ten 1/12th model and this is the poorest built of the lot.

    Regards,

    Matthew
