Thanks for posting so that a lowly Amex green card holder can read it! ;) Great job, and you got my "old tire" quote exactly right.

Well, thank goodness, I'm not going to be the pedant that points out there were no 246 cars from 1968 (per live drawing caption)....

    :)

That's what I told them, but they seemed to be certain about it. I didn't write the caption BTW... My text said that Dinos were made in those years...

I figured.... those editors, what can you do?.... :)

    Very good write up, BTW!

Nice story Mike. Thanks for sharing. No way to qualify editor's competance and they seldom let you critique headlines, pictures or captions. I think it came out just fine. Thanks.

Jack- By chance was the "internist in Carson City in his nineties" a guy named Sandy Sonderegger (?sp)? If so, I remember speaking to him in early 2001 about his car, a black GTS, though I never actually saw or drove it- ended up with another car. Thought at the time that Sandy wanted too much money - prob should have bought both his AND my present car (retrospectoscope)! Enjoy your new baby, and welcome to our small family. Bob K.

Yup. That was the gent. Spoke to him and his son. Really glad you passed!!!!!

The editors at Departures are great... they almost always get things 1000%... I had a chance to correct the caption, and I missed it, but the eagle eyes on FC never miss anything!!

The magazine is really, really good. It alone is worth the price of the Platinum Card. I also use their discount program for companion biz class or first class air reasonably ofetn -- saved me about $7500 on a recent trip to Peru. (I sound like a corporate shill, I'm afraid)... The Black Card is worth it for travellers who aren't super elite frequent flier club members - you get upgrades, can use the lounges, etc...

Great article Mike! You are absolutely spot on about Departures! It truly is a wonderful publication. Is this your first article in Departures? Who do you normally write for?

I just read the piece in my copy of Departures (it normally sits in plastic for a few days before I get around to opening it, but I'm glad I did this time).

Nice piece.... Congrats on the Dino.

Wow - you dealt with both Terry Price and Ed Waterman yet still survived.
Very clever to hire a PI to independently check things out!

I write a regular column for them about things that interest me and might interest other folks -- I also do some items on cars and golf and such. I just did a whole bunch of work for Black Ink - that's the magazine for Centurion Card holders (black cards) -- including one about 599's!

I write for them because I think it's a really good "luxury" magazine!

As for Ed and Terry, they both did right by me and I got a great car! Both a bit odd -- but then who in here isn't??
