Bought a 1999 360 with F1 about a month ago. Down in Monterey this weekend, I tried to start it - NADA. The F1 warning light on the dash was on. Nothing worked - indicator shows 1st gear Details:
    - paddles do nothing (i.e. I can't get it in Neutral) - doors/hood/tail are closed
    - Warning light isn't flashing, it's constant. Warning chime comes on with turning ignition - Check OK does come up.
    - Pump does run as normal after opening the driver door
    - F1 fuses behind the driver seat checked-out OK.
    - Can't tell if the F1 pump relay behind the passenger seat is good or not.

Has anyone seen a similar problem? At a minimum, I need to get this thing out of gear so they can winch it out of the parking garage and flat-bed it to the Ferrari dealer (yes, it couldn't have happened at a worse place - in a hotel garage, underground where flatbeds can't get access... did I mention the curved entry/exit ramps?). :)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks

    John

John, try a hard reset - turn off the master power switch and turn it back on after 10 seconds. Your problem happened to a buddy of mine. He had a '02 360 Spider.

Happened to my 2001 Modena last year. The problem on my car was loss of hydraulic pressure from a failed gasket (your problem might be something entirely different), so that the F1 actuator was unable to shift out of gear. Releasing the car from gear require a special tool from the dealer. I was in a remote area in the Cascade Mountains when it happened, so the local tow truck/ gas station owner put dolly wheels on my back wheels so we could push the car around and get it on a flatbed. The dealer told me after my car arrived that they could actually send someone to the site and release the car with the special tool (wouldn't help in my case, most likely). A call to a nearby dealer and ask about the release tool and see if they'd send someone out to you and look over the car.

The leak in my F1 system really mucked up the actuator so the dealer decided to replace the system (car was still under warranty). So far so good with about 8,000 miles added since (got over 29,000 miles now).

Look for leaks and try the system reset by shutting off main power.

Thanks for the great input - forgot to mention I did try the hard reset on the advice of a Ferrari Tech. I got hold of on the phone. I cut power from the battery and left for the afternoon - no luck after I re-applied power.

I have a name for a reputable Ferrari mechanic down there (word is he was particularly busy this weekend). I'll contact him Monday and start looking into the special tool approach - step one is just getting it someplace where they can get it on a diagnostic machine, I suppose!

Sorry to hear about your trouble - have you checked if the battery is reasonably charged, i.e. does the F1 hydraulic pump run if the door is opened? – sometimes the electronics might come on but other aggregates with higher power demand will not work or the pump does not generate the necessary pressure

The special tool is a hydralic hand pump. IMO if you have a F1 gearbox you need this tool. It is typical Ferrari to me that there is not a user friendly way to at least roll your car. OTOH too bad you can't turn it on and off. What a great antitheft device. There are 4re guys all over the place there. Why don't you find a mechanic hanging around the race track getting ready for the next week events and spot him a few bucks to come take a look? If you can get it rolling you can put the tow hook eye from your tool kit in and pull the car out with any SUV. The you can flatbed it. Marin from International Motorsport is a 360 racer with lots of experience on these cars. He may be in Monterey with his crew and big trailer. You might get him at 714 842 4229. Call him anyway he may give you some advice. Tell him car 53 red 348 sent you.

You know, guys, as great as the F1 technology is, it is threads like this that make me glad I decided on the 3-pedal car.

All - wanted to thank you for the useful insight on my problem... the car made it to Ferrari SF on a flatbed (thanks to a "house call" by the SF Service Mgr who was down for the races) - he got it unlocked and loaded on to a truck - and... of course... it started right up at the dealer and it's not throwing any error codes... ahh, the joy of owning a Ferrari! :) The good news is its not a new F1 pump, etc.

Since it's already at the dealer, I heard a lot of nice Tubi noise in Monterey... hmmmm....
