1992 F40 with adjustable suspension?

    I would shy away from an adjustable suspension. It is totally unnecassary, is a headache, and hurts the handling...

    I have NEVER felt the need for it in 4 plus years of ownership....

    I'm looking at a 1992 to buy, how do I look for the option on the car?

    You will see the hydraulic lines going into the top of the shocks in the rear. There is a rocker switch on the left side of the dash with a picture of a shock on it and of course the obvious one is that the car will raise up 20 mm when you start the engine. I don't think there are more than 5 cars in the U.S. with this option. It would have had to been retro fitted. It was not a U.S. option.

    I have mixed feelings about it. I drive my car a lot. It now has 30K miles on it. There has many times that there is "no way in hell" I could have gone certain places without it. It can be anoying having the car raise and lower itself, so we are looking into installing a by-pass switch.

    The first switch, yes. There is also a yellow light on the lower right of the speedo with a picture of a shock on it.

    No real problems. Normal stuff. Clutch, fuel pump connections, alternator....

    There really isn't a whole lot to these cars.

    I have a 1992 F40 with adjustible suspension in Australia with European spec.
    I can not go over the gutter into my driveway without scraping, unless I raise the car with the adjustable suspension. Some other driveways I have used are the same. There are also some speed humps that require the car to be raised. The problem is not only the ride height, but also the car has long over hangs front and rear.

    Obviously some owners are lucky enough not to need this option, but for others like me, it is a choice between being able to use the car on public roads or maybe not owning an F40.

    Yep.
    I know guys that only drive the car on the same roads that it has been on. Period. Sorta takes the fun out of owning the car having to worry about if it will survive the unknown. :(

    The F40 adjustable in normal height can climb marginally higher kerbs than an F430.

    My workshop entrance is sloped, and a 430 almost touches unless the approach angle is perfect, where the F40 in normal "slow" position can get in with a few mm to clear. A std F40 is slightly worse than F430.
