Buying a Ferrari has so many decisions, first the model, then the color, now I'm down to 6-Speed or F1 paddle shifters. I think I want the 6-Speed, its more fun to drive a 6-Speed in my opinion, additionally I already have a 997 Turbo Tiptronic. So what do you guys think 6-Speed or F1 Thanks John
No no no.....the "what do you guys do for a living?" is the most reposted question in Fchat history I reckon. There are MANY others that rank high up there also.
I prefer f1. 6 speed is alright but has a couple better benefits (clutch wear!) Everyone has different opinions. Keep in mind the tiptronic in Porsche is nothing like Ferrari's F1 though. GOOD LUCK!
I think it also depends on the car you are getting. 360 on, F1 only. 355, your preference. Despite being a fan of the 6-speed, I really think the newer cars are designed around the F1. Of course, I have other 6-speeds, not autos, so the F1 is different for me. And yes, I do believe I have seen this question come up once before.
I've owned both, a 360 with a 6-speed manual and a F430 with the F1. I think the answer depends on what type of driving you will do. If you use it as a daily driver and spend some time in bumper-to-bumper traffic, I'd actually prefer the manual shift (trading left leg fatigue vs. constant F1 clutch slip/engagement/wear & tear). If you drive mostly on open, winding roads for fun, then the manual stick is a better "one with car" experience, IMHO. If you do track days, driving an F1 paddle-shift on a road course (with a lot of high-acceleration upshifts and downshifts before the corners) is an amazing thing to experience. BTW, technically the F1 transmission is also a "six speed" (but everyone knows what you mean when you use the term).
While the new F1 style transmissions are great, I just prefer three pedals....more driver interaction and control. Plus it's FUN!
The F1 is an absolute BLAST to drive! There are merits to the 3 pedal manual, but personally I have another car (STi) to take care of that urge. In the Ferrari there's nothing better than Wide Open Throttle foot on the floor 8500 rpm shifting, lightning fast, chirping the tires on the 1-2 and the 2-3. THAT is addictive...maybe not great for the drivetrain but I can't help it!
Depends on the car. Up to 355 6MT. 360 either, favor the 6MT. 430 get the F1. There is no wrong, both are better than the Porsche sad Tip. The 430 really shines with the F1.
I have a 6-speed 550 and an F1 GranSport (which has a similar F1 to that of the 575). They both have their merits, and which I prefer depends upon my mood that day. Somedays I'm tired and just want to go to work ina relaxed fashion....then I take the Jag!
after spending most of sunday in our F-1 430 and Monday in a 2004 6 speed 360.........my advice would be to go with the 6 speed even a fellow Ferrari owner i took to breakfast on sunday expressed the same opinion the whole clunkiness of that system just drives us crazy!!
Sigh... OK..John..please listen. There is a search function. I just used it and I too found 250 responses to the exact question. No reason to tell another person off for suggesting it. While I am at it. You seem to be blasting into FerrariChat here with far too much "knowledge" and attitude. Please stop. - It is called a "348 Ferrari Challenge"..not Challenger - The picture of the Challenge Stradale is really his car. It wasnt lifted from eBay or google - and yes, Challenge Stadales do have AC A little more thought before you post might go a long way..no reason to tell people off
