Have a factory tour set up in June, and would like some input on what can be seen in the 4-5 hours we have there. Tour is at 10am and was told it is about 1 hour and 15 minutes long. What then?

Phillip...first of all, an absolute must is staying at the Hotel Planet which is right across from the factory. We stayed in Room 406 and it was fantastic.

As far as how to spend your time. The tour takes 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 minutes. For your remaining time in Maranello, there are many many small automobile repair shops that are pretty friendly. Knock on the doors, walk in and chances are you'll see 275GTB4, 250SWB, F40, and other exotics being repaired. Fiorano Race Track is just up the road towards the overpass. You can't see much, but the walk is good.

On your way back to Modena, there is a restaurant on the right hand side of the road called Vechio Mollino. Fantastic food. Say hello to Antonio for me if you go.

Shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll get into more detail if you wish. Maranello is a wonderful place!

    P.S.

If you don't stay in Maranello at least one night, you will regret that part of the trip. Hearing a F430, F355, or other Ferrari go ripping down mainstreet at 8PM is a sight and sound you'll never forget.

There is also the Gallaria and the many many gift shops around Maranello.

    Thanks Dave!!

    Hey Digman . . .

You must be taking the "Free" owner tour arranged by your dealer? We are taking that while over there for the San Marino GP in April.

We took the "Owner's" tour on October 12 & 13. This was NOT the free tour but was worth every 624,00 EUR we paid and then some!! We were the only ones from the US who where there (group isze is limited) - met some wonderful folks from the UK that we sat with for dinner and lunch. We had a very intensive tour of the factory - we started the tour with an "ice breaker" cocktail/appetizer at the Planet Hotel, went to dinner at Montana, took a night tour of the factory and of the Fiorana track. Stay was at the Planet Hotel (directly across from Il Cavallino and the employee entrance to the factory) - we had one of the suites on the top floor - talk about a room with a view! - beautiful room. Next morning we had breakfast at the factory, factory overview (sat in an F430), factory tour from 10 am - 1 pm with a break in the Produzione Motori area - the factory is unbeliveably beautiful with large murals of the cars and lush green vegetation - this tour goes places the "free" one doesn't. Then there was lunch at Il Cavallino (mind you the wine was flowing again!!), then off to the Galleria Ferrari Museum (been there before, nice to see the new changes and expansion) then unfortunately the tour ended about 4 pm..

Please PM us and I'd be glad to phone you and share our experiences in the Maranello area with you and also share other ideas and things to do while there - we spent a day in San Marino (shopping heaven as it's a duty free country and prices are lower than the airport duty free shops) - talk about a place to buy models in the castle!! The Maranello Rosso Museum is an absolute must. We topped each evening at the Maranello Cafe for expresso. Going to the track in Imola is something else too! They were running 360's when we stopped by.

I could move to the Maranello area in a heartbeat but my 40+ horses might not be happy campers!! But since that is not in the realm of possibility, I'll settle for the next best thing and be there for the San Marino GP soonly. If anyone is interested, the cheapest tickets we found for the GP are thru the track site and the low price is valid thru the end of the month. Our preference is Acque Minerali, section D - it's 235,00 EUR each for Sunday and Saturday is 55,00 EUR each.

    Looking forward to your PM.

    Carol

    .

NO, it was not via our dealer (in our case FoH). It was on the "Owner's Only" site. John called me at work one day and said when you get home go check out the site and see what they have planned - well, I checked out the site and made reservations as space is limited, then called him back and said, guess what I did!!

Suggestion, if you do any of this, the airport of choice is Bologna. From Dallas to Bologna, we had to go through Paris to catch the flight into Bologna.

Are you thinking about it should they offer it again? If you are an owner, there's info on the site on the left side of the page under factory tours.

    Carol,

For the rest of us who aren't fortunate enough to own a Ferrari, is there a limited factory tour given? If so, should I contact my dealer or Ferrari directly?

Thanks Carol and Greg ! This is the free owner's tour I am doing, and they allow 3 guests. I'll be taking my son, son-in-law, and probably future son-in law, and that one day is all we can carve out from our ladies. Will e-mail you guys for more stuff.

Don't worry plenty of stuff to do in mecca. The Cavalino Restaurant is directly across the street and a worth see if open. Lots of memorabilia on the walls. There are a lot of shops in town with F-stuff. The Ferrari store across the street is way over priced but some really nice stuff. Modena is a great town to check out too. Make sure there are no scheduled festivals going on at that time as it makes for a more crowded stay and you'll need to plan ahead. Galleria is a must see too. If you have some time there is some great driving and sites in the hills you see above the town. Have fun!

So... not to beat a dead horse....
your local dealer gets you the 1.5 hour tour.
The Owners Site sells a much more in-depth tour? (or at least put one together) - they would seem to have much more "pull" than FNA dealers?

    Hi Andrew,

You might check with your local dealer but it's my understanding that the tours are for owners. Never hurts to ask!

You must be an owner to tour the factory. I scheduled mine through Ferrari of Washington and on the application form, they asked for your chassis number and other info to validate you are an owner.

    HELP?

I have been trying to figure out how to contact Planet Hotel to make reservations and have come up completely empty.

I searched earlier threads and found one that had a web site for the hotel, but it is now inactive.

Does anyone have a phone number or a correct website for the Planet Hotel?

    Thanks,
    Mark

PS We have confirmed reservations at the factory, so we are definitely looking to make reservations at this hotel.

    Try this link: http://www.terredimodena.it/english/scheda.asp?id_app=54&tipo=modulo

Suggestion, we've stayed at the Best Western Domus in Maranello. It's close to the factory (500 meters) and is located in the main square. Go to: www.bestwestern.com - you should find the rate just under 100 EUR per night. Breakfast is included and you have plenty of time to take advantage of it and be to your tour at 10 am (if that's the time you are taking yours). If your tour is in April (San Marino GP, you will find it hard to find rooms!) The Maranello Cafe is right by the Domus - great place to "end an evening".

When are you taking your tour? We are taking our "free" one 21 April.

Thanks for the information. That will really help figure this out.

Our tour is in mid-July. So, hopefully we still have time to make reservations.
