Drove my '98 F355 from DFW to New Orleans for the FFQC and the car ran like a champ at sustained speeds of 100mph. Couple of small issues however:

The passenger side driving light (fog light, not the headlight) shattered on the way down. A rock or something must have hit it. Where is the best place to buy the replacement part? What is the procedure for the installation of the new light? Do I need to take the front bumper off or can I get to it by removing the panels on the underside of the car? Is it just plug and play once I have access?

Other issue seems strange. After I arrived home after putting about 1500 miles on the car over 5 days, I left the car idling in the driveway while I took all the luggage out. When I got back in the car to pull into the garage, the check engine light was on. I haven't had a chance yet to hook up the OBD II code reader, but will this weekend and report back.

    Thanks for any help.

    Rob,

I have a set of unopened (factory sealed) bumper/fog lights. FNA sold them to me when I bought a replacement bumper for my 355 Challenge car. I think they run about $700 for both from FNA. PM me or email me at [email protected] if interested.

    Regards,

    Jon

I did one of my front driving lights last month, a new light cost 80 quid. I had to remove the front corner under tray, looked up and there it is connected to the front bumper. Then i undid 3 nuts (10mm i think) that are around the light that conects it to the bumper and unclipt the wire conector. Fitted the new one. All in all took about 30 mins from start to end. Easy.

Thanks for the tips guys! Specialized Recycling had a used light for $150 and chaa's install tips make the job sound like a breeze.

The OBD code turned out to be P1448, the Cat Bypass Valve. I reset the light and drove the car Sunday and it stayed off. Thanks to this board, I had purchased a OBD II code reader in advance of my first warning light since it was reported here that the 355 has a tendency to set off the check engine light. It was nice to have the code reader on hand and avoid a trip to the dealer. If it goes of a second time I'll make a more thorough inspection.

    Rob (jakermc),

I've done a ton of research on what "code reader" will work with a 355, and I thought that the OBD II required some sort of "jumper" or some mod to use it in 355. My understanding was that the SD1 (or SD2) was what was needed.

Can you tell me if it works "straight oot of box" and give me an idea of what to pay for it. My service shop charges $110 to give me a printout of the ECU from their SD1 unit.

Thanks for any more info you can provide,

    Eric

It worked right out of the box. Only trick with the 355 is that the car must be running for it to work. The code readers only come with generic codes, but the Ferrari codes can be found by posting them here. One of us will be able to decipher it for you.

If I remember right, code readers run in the $80-$120 range if you shop around. I may be a little low, I bought it a while back.
