I saw this on Flickr and I think it's absolutely gorgeous. According to the photo description the color is a one-off shade (that is patented by Fux himself), the interior is a mix of red and white leather and suede and the carbon fiber is red. I'm not sure if he means that the CF is simply painted red (like the mirrors) or if it is actually dyed red. Are there any more pictures of this 16M out there? (Photo Credit: Ian Jones)

How do you patent a color?

I see he still likes the white interior idea. He did several earlier Ferrari models in Rosso Fiorano and each had a matching white interior. He certainly practices what he preaches about using bold color choices instead of the 'standard' red on tan combination for his Ferrari collection...

He doesn't simply pick a color that he likes and request that the factory livery his car in said hue. He takes two or more specific colors (Ferrari, non-Ferrari, who knows) and mixes them until the desired shade is reached. The new shade is a new creation, thus patentable, and he sends a sample to Ferrari to duplicate and lovingly spray upon the voluptuous Pininfarina curves that are host to the impeccable machines before you.

The carbon fiber is NOT painted red...it is red stitched carbon fibers that give it a red hue instead of normal carbon fiber which is black. Also the color name for that car is Rosso Fucoto...I don't believe I spelled that last part correctly but it is very close.

He Fux with the formula for it, of course.

And he keeps with it until he finds a shade that isn't on any paint chart? Nah, don't think so.

Seems to me you could TM the name, patent the specific formula for the color, but not the color itself. If someone else can produce the same shade without using his formula, I think that would be ok, and there'd be nothing Fux could do about it.

You just can't call it Fux red or Fux yellow, or you're fuxed. :D

It looks fantastic...but that white interior is probably very hard to keep clean (assuming the car actually gets driven).

I'm not sure how the color is patented but the photo description says "This car is completely custom and patented. You will never see another Ferrari, let alone car, in this color".

I believe the picture was taken in Monterey, CA a couple of weeks ago.

I've never heard of this guy. Call me juvenile, but how is his last name pronounced? Fuuuuu..... The best I could come up with was "Foo"

I couldn't keep a straight face when I read the title of the original post.

    Seriously. Call me juvenile.

If you could patent a color wouldn't every manufacturer do so? If Ferrari will paint a car Rolls Royce white then do we really think a color can be patented? If I paint my car Fux Red do I get sued? More likely the formula is a secret.

I know of at least two Ferrari's that are painted in a Porsche-color. No problems there.

All I do do know is that the poor chap won't be able to see where he is going from the reflection of the white dash in the windscreen !

The Coupe was at Monterey a year ago. The color changed from yellow to green depending on how the light hit it. His girlfriend was driving a white 599 with white interior with red stiching and white carpets. There were clear plastic mats over the carpets.

Fux apparently helped develop memory foam. Has about 50 exotic cars in his collection w/ about 20 of them Ferraris. Always has about 8-10 of his cars at the Celebration Exotic Car Festival near Orlando, FL.
