OK, maybe we can get some of the GranTurismo 4 players to post some times. Last night I played a bit with it and in arcade mode, time trial, I took the Lotus Elise 111R around the Nurburgring in 8:15. That is with standard HP / weight so no fiddling with that, just soft sports tires and playing with the standard controller, no (FFB) wheel. It was a far from perfect run with 2 "offs" and brushing the wall on the Adenau bridge. Curious to see what "the others" can do in that same car with same settings.
i'm quite new to the game, just started playin with it last week. i really like the nurburgring. one thing tho...i noticed that most of the cars tend to understeer at most circuits..
I've managed a 5.42.184 round the 'ring in an Audi R8 - had to tune the setup but it didn't have any mods. I might have had 4 wheels on the grass at one point, but I was at 10/10ths all the way round. It's been a while since I've played much GT4 though, as I got into Forza as the AI doesn't suck. Out of interest, is anyone playing PGR3 on the Xbox 360? There's a fairly good Nordschleife on it, and the online play is a lot of fun. A bit more arcadey than GT4, but the graphics are very very good. My gamertag is the same as my F-Chat login is anyone fancies a game some time.
Havent played it in a while, maybe I should play some today and see how I fair on the ring these days. Ill post later with an update. Mark
I have set my personal target at getting the Elise round the ring in under 8 minutes... I'll have to find 15 seconds per lap...
Anyone want to have a friendly competition...same car, no mods (except soft race tires), on the ring?? I would say the car should be a momentum racer, but not slow. My vote is for the Elise. So whos in?? Mark
Sure, count me in, I'm always game. Haven't set it up for online play though. Do we need pictures of times or is there enough trust for just reported times? (I vote for the latter but will gladly post screen shots).
I especially picked the Lotus as it kinda brings out the best racer. It's easy to make up lost time in one of the Le Mans cars and still post incredibly fast times at the ring. With the Lotus you just need to get it right at every turn. I also always look at the speed that I achieve at certain visiual points. One of them is "hitting" the shadow of the Aremberg bridge. I believe the fastest that I did there with the Elise was 137 KM/H. The speed you achieve there is a tell-tale for how well you took the Aremberg turn. Also a nice one is the top speed on Kesselchen, it depends for 80% on your exit speed at Bergwerk. I can't get the Elise to go faster than 225 KM/H there. For those who have NO idea of which turns I am babbling about, a good map with the names of the turns can be found here: http://www.heiser.net/media/2002.09.nurburgring/nurburgring_map.jpg
They do Bryan... But.. My view is that that is mainly due to the lack of feel that have either through th econtroller of a wheel. You tend to go into turns a LOT faster than IRL and the logical reaction of the cars is to understeer. Try out the Lotus and see how you can steer it "on the throttle".
I would say that no screen shots are needed being as that there would be no prizes or anything. Besides if you have to lie online about GT4 lap times to feel good then there’s something wrong...lol. Anyway with Elise 111R I just did a 7:56.584. Definitely not the best I can do but not bad considering I haven’t raced the Ring in probably more than a year, I don't think it's too bad. Mark
I always thought the hardest test in getting one of the GT4 licenses was "racing" in that Cinquecento from Fiat. One tiny mistake and your time is in the toilet. If you watch closely there are actually roadsigns at the track that indicate what each section is called. I always have a hardtime through Karussel: Trying to feed into it nicely at speed, stay in the groove and come out of it is though. Keeping it under wraps at Schwedenkreuz in a fast car is another challenge.
Yeah, the Fiat 500 was a b#tch! I actualy never managed all the driving missions... did get all the licenses though. I am still frustrated with the driving mission in the Toyota 2000.. can't even get close to the leader. The best I managed was 8 seconds behind, in 2nd place. I tried out the Elise again. On soft sporttires I keep getting stuck around that 8:15. Swapped the tires for soft racing ones and dropped the time to 7:50... Again, a far from perfect lap and on the handheld controller. Which tires do we "declare" the standard? Racing or Sports? To me the 8 minutes barrier is a nice one and with soft racing tires its way too easy to get your time under that barrier (heck, even I can do that!) so shall we agree on soft sports tires? Any other ideas?
But Andreas... at the speeds that we are driving at... do you think we have the time to watch the roadsigns ???????? ;-)
with the elise i got an 8:14 with the sport wheels with the ff wheel (really havent gotten used to it yet though). My best ever is a 5:13 with a formula gran turismo. that was with the controller, with the wheel its closer to a 5:30!
Managed to shave some 11 seconds of my time... I'm at 8.04.863 now on soft sports tires. Those 5 seconds are in there somewhere as my laps are very inconsistent; losing a second here, gaining 2 seconds there. That quickly adds up.
That is a hard one indeed. Took me weeks to beat it. The last mission is the hardest though. Best I've managed was 15 seconds behind the lead car.
Pretty good. I tried it last night and did a 8:30 in my 2nd lap, but had still offs. Never managed to go better. Not that it isn't possible (it is obviously), but being the Ring I always have a hard time to keep my concentration for an entire lap and always screw up somewhere. As for car changes I'd much rather suggest a variable transmission: The gearing is totally wrong for the Ring: I never need 6th gear so the gears could made much shorter and allow for more power out of the tight corners. Uphill after Kesselchen I leave it in 4th, but the redlight comes on over and over (not that I care since I won't pay the maintenance bill...). I played with traction control, ABS and ASR but it didn't do me any good. The car is more stable, but not necessarily faster. Maybe I'll try again today sober.
Count me in. I have not driven the 'ring in a while, but I'll have a go at <8min. laps. Elise 111, sport softs, no other mods. I did the toyota 2000 (in NY street course, right?) in driving missions, but it took weeks. BE SMOOTH! Now I'm stuck on mission 13, a 206 in Paris... can't get better than 1.08 secs behind the 1st place car. It's staring to really get to me...
8:18 on sports tires, 7:55 on racing tires For kicks I tried the same in Forza: Elise 111S, oh boy that was slow. I cancelled the lap as it went pas 9 minutes...Also felt so arcadey compared to GT4.
Got it down to 7:58 on soft tires. I tried and tried to get the 111S down below 8 minutes until I realized later that you were talking about the 111R. I did get the 111S down to about 8:15. The trick with the Elise seems to be counter to what you would do in real life. On medium and slow speed corners you have to break extra early (but gently) and then get hard on the gas and get the car to drift (again a gentle drift as anything else bogs the motor down). On the fast corners you have turn in very early (again counter to real life) and allow a bit of drift to the edge of the track. I had been doing the ring lately in the Sauber and Audi R8. Man that Elise (either one) feels like it's blown it's engine it so slow. JK
