Sad to see that the collection's been broken up :( and put up for sale. It will be difficult to keep it in our tiny country.

I don't see a price and wouldn't even know where to look to find out what the last one sold went for....so what kind of cash are we talking about for this piece? I would think anything less than the $1.8M for an FXX makes this car a bargain: fewer in existence, just as fast, arguably better looking, and tremendously unique.

Edit: nevermind, on the photos page it says it's offered at just under $900k. Seems like a bargain to me?

But is it really a bargain when compared to F40/F40 LM prices? I know it infinitely more exclusive than the standard F40, but would the experience really be all that different, or different enough to justify roughly 3 times the price? That I am not sure of.

I see what you mean. I don't know why their GTE hasn't been sold yet. I've been going through some old LM prices and they all seem to have gone around $500k and below. Maybe the market thinks that is the price point and not something $800-900k? One could get an Enzo and drive it on the street for that price.

Or one could get a 288 GTO Evoluzione and drive it on the street and watch for potholes. ;)

You have to compare this to McLaren F1 prices. The street ones are more valuable than than the competition ones (even the ones with history) simply because the street ones are usable.
There is no historic racing series for the comp F1's (yet) thus making them redundant.

There are very few speculators/investors anymore for anything

People who buythese top end cars want to USE them.

Where can you use a 288 GTO Evo?

No offence but since when is that an issue for people who can afford 900,000 dollar toys? Are F40s that much usable or better yet - are F40s being used that much at all?

Point is that the 288 Evo is a rarer beast than the F40 and even the F40LM/GTE. So it's priced accordingly.

Parts availability! I suspect that pretty much everything on the car is one-off (or 5-off, as the case may be). Throw a rod? Crunch a corner? We're talking F50GT rarity and prices for parts. Also, I suspect this car is pretty fragile as a race car. I'm not sure how much development went into this concept, but it's not a 333SP. Relative to the 333s, the F40LMs are fragile, and they actually raced in period. Regardless, it would be a neat toy.

No offence taken, i was merely offering my interpretation of this scenario

We had a situation in the late eighties where anything with a prancing horse on it was commanding silly money and being sold to speculators/ investors/ call them what you will. Then, rather inevitably the market crashed.

Early 90s led to some relative bargains but then as historic racing became more popular prices started to creep back up, GTOs, SWBs & Tour de France led the way but this time the speculators were no where to be seen, the buyers were now real enthusiasts who wanted to use their cars.

    regards

    Paul

On these cars, does the steering column VIN plate show "328", "288 GTO" or something different?

Eligibily is becoming a more and more important factor when pricing/buying those cars. Look at the value of the BBLM once it became eligible in the Ferrari Challenge ( From 300ks to 600/700ks and some people are saying 1m$ now ) .

"I don't know why their GTE hasn't been sold yet."

Listed as located in Australia - of course, cars are bought and sold all over and, yet, the location may hurt the car's appeal to US buyers. Quite a hike to see it personally, or have a trusted mechanic flown out.

That price has the Sheehan factor included, admittedly it is rare but against an F40 starting around $310K to 350K?????

I'll just get three of those, instead....:D

Just look at how much the F50GT's have traded hands for. I would surely think these cars should hold at least half the value of one of those.
