I reach to my fellow F chatters and tech gurus, in order to resolve a strange mechanical issue, currently affecting a 99 360 F1. -F1 transmission begins to act strangely a few minutes after car rolls out. No gears can be selected. Only reverse. At some point, second gear will come up, but when attempting to upshift the engine sputters and gear selector goes nuts, displaying 4, 5 or even N, while the car stops delivering traction to the wheels. The battery was turned off and back on, in order to reset the ECU, but symptom/s won't dissapear. When the car cools down, a gear up-down sequence can be done with no issues, with the ignition key on and engine not running. Sometimes, this can be also accomplished even with the engine running, but car not moving. But like I previusly said, as soon as the car is driven, it only takes a couple of miles before the problem takes over again. Car has a brand new F1 pump motor. SD3 scan was done and no indication of any probelm was detected. Clutch has 80% life remaining. Entire F1 fluid system was bled 3 times (from the bottom). Can someone please give some feedback about this?
Sounds like either the F1 pump or the clutch. The symptoms being shown are reflecting what I experienced with an F1 pump going as when my car would warm up the pump couldn't handle the pressure to sustain the gear change, hence, no gears. If it's the clutch well it's obvious there as it would Never go into gear. I hope this helps and if it's the F1 pump call Daniel at Ricambi as he has the pumps and can get you all set up. Search the forums for F1 pump replacement as it's not hard to do and there is a great write up with photos that are very helpful.
The most likely problems: # gear engagement sensor (A) # gear position sensor (B) # clutch position sensor (C) Less likely: # hydraulic power unit pressure sensor Have you properly bled the hydraulic system after installing a new F1 pump? Thank you Juri. I purchased the new F1 pump with heat shield from you about 3 months ago. Yes, it's me, man !
UOMO: Based on your description and Juri's post, it sounds like you might have a heat dissipation problem. Does your car have a regular grill or a challenge grill? My understanding is that the challenge grill helps with the high heat levels generated in the 360 engine bay.
I have the Challenge grill, and the new F1 pump motor already has the cooling ring around it. A pressure test was done on the motor (47/48 BAR) and fluid is new and properly bled.
