Among the Palo Alto surprises was this 330 GTC originally owned by Sergio Pininfarina. The car has a number of unique details. In place of side vents the car has hood vents. It also has high beam headlights like the 365 Californias. This car is earlier and thought to have been the prototype for this feature.

With hood vents it may be a 365GTC, or perhaps since it's PF's personal car, it could be a 330 precursor to the 365. Do you know if those auxillary lights open/retract manually or electrically?

Attention Headlight Police: Does anyone know manufacturer and part # of the main lights on this car? (Looking for some for my 330GTC)

    Jack,

When the owner drove up, I asked if he should be in the 365 Class and he said his car is a 330GTC, even though it has the 365GTC vents. Interesting!

Jack - The car is definately a 330. The owner says that Pininfarina did wind tunnel tests and determined that the side vents were of no ventilation value and thus removed them. The headlights are moved electrically.

The owner did not know it was Sergio's car until after purchase. He was baffeled by extra wires to front as no secondary units were present when he bought the car. The holes thru the body were discovered when painting, revealing purpose of the extra wires. Subsequent research (confirmed by Pininfarina) revealed the car's origins and records of its unusual details. New lights were not available (only used on about 16 or 17 cars?) so he got pictures of the lights on other cars and fabricated the whole assembly. No easy feat...

The large lights are Carello. Appears that they have the number 4300 below the logo. In addition it appears that there are two E labels in squares. I can not make out the rest.... maybe they say E3?

Thanks for posting the pics, Jon. Did you happen to get the s/n? If not, does anyone else know the s/n? Is this the same car?

Wayne - I didn't catch the s/n (damn). I believe the car is owned by Jim Hampton and John Ratto of Oakland, Ca. Unfortunately, neither is listed in the Ferrari Club and a net search led to numerous names and dead phone numbers......

All I can say is that the owner of the silver one is telling to anybody that his car is a speciale which is ABSOLUTELY false...

Thanks again. I'd like to continue the discussion as well as try to identify the blue car, but I don't want to hijack this thread so I'm taking the discussion here:

Hi Wayne, the blue car is 8727. It is also pictured in color on page 275 of the Etienne Cornil book "Ferrari by Pininfarina".
