I would appreciate it if someone can tell me where the jack, chock, and tools are stored in a 1972 246. I assume the wheel chock is held by the rubber strap in the front compartment? Does the tool kit go on the LH corner of the rear boot - there is a leather belt there. Where does the jack go? Many thanks in advance.

Those items are frequently stored in a closet and usually go on EBAY AFTER the car is SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought all tools are stored in a large safe next to the closet.

Offset, of course, by the extra fire extinguishers in the rear compartment.....

I can't find any pictures or references for where they go.

I'd guess the tools may have resided under the strap in the front compartment.

reflector, jack, etc, in the trunk.

My chock was tucked in the left rear by the power antenna when I got it,

    OK here goes...

    1) Chock - Under spare held down by the rubber strap

    2) Jack (and lug wrench) - on the passenger side of the spare tire tub - there is a strap on the outside of the tub (the side where the air vent valve is on the radiator)

    3) Triangle - opposite (driver's side) of the jack location (where the inlet/outlet hoses are in the radiator). Similarly there is a strap on that side against the spare tire tub.

    4) Tool puoch - in the trunk

Hope this helps (and Dave for Reading on Sunday)

i don't know about your cars, but the dino's i have are different.

    1) chock- in the trunk

    2) jack kit - in the trunk area - either in the left or right trunk area slide in space (ie- in the area created by the back side of the rear wheel arches)

    3) triangle- god only knows, i assume in the trnk or behind the seats

    4) tool pouch - held in by the strap that is found under the front tire spare. no doubt, that this is in the front of the car and not the back

There are actually little trays at the bottom of the jack and triangle for them to rest on (part of the frame) and straps along the outside of the spare tire tub to secure them. - you might want to check up front.

Thank you, Pietro, WSpeer. I just checked my car, after studying Pietro's pictures, and find I don't have the trays in the front compartment (and perhaps WSpeer doesn't either). Just the radiator, frame tubes, and the ground beyond. No belts either. I note Pietro's car is a 1971. Mine is a 1972 E GT. Could this be the difference? The rubber strap under the spare tire is listed by spares suppliers as the wheel chock belt, so I assumed the chock goes there. I do have the leather strap in the left-rear corner of the rear boot - might be for the jack kit or the tool pouch. But many thanks for the response. I appreciate it. (Thanks too to the others who suggested the safe, cabinet, etc. - with the prices on Ebay those are probably good suggestions.)

I know my "L" series has one belt with buckle in the trunk on the back of the driver's side wheel well. It's not really great for holding anything - tools pouch, manual pouch or jack bag.

    Pietro -

I wish my front trunk area looked as nice and clean as yours. Is your trunk interior all original?

Also, the shaft on your tire/wheel holddown (I'm not sure what to call it) appears to be a reddish brown in the photo.

The one on my September 1972 GTS (titled as a 1973) is aluminum in color. Anyone here on FCHAT know when the color changed?

Following the Sunday FCA concours in Reading, I have this to report.

All three judges who looked at my car agreed.

THEY DON'T CARE WHERE THE TOOLS, JACK, ETC ARE, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THEM!

Asked them all, none knew of specific locations for the tools. One was a Dino "expert" and he had no idea where they went.

Of course, I'd defer to Tom S. on this if he chimes in. :D

wanting to verify that i ma not crazy, i just checked both of my 74 dino's (my 72's aren't at my house). neither of them have the configuration that pietro mentions. they both have a rubber strap that is located near the windsheild side of the front liner. it holds the tools (under the spare tire). in the trunk, there re two pockets at the reamost outercorners of the trunk that holds the chock, triangle, and jackkit.

for the rear trunk area, i can't say that this is where they are intended to go, but it is where i have always had them. however, there are no straps other than the tool strap to be found in the hood area. moreover, they areas mentioned by pietro aren't even accessible except from under the car or by removing the wheels and wheel well liner.

i don't know if the variation is from euro to usa spec (all mine are usa spec) or if it is from early to late spec (all mine are late spec).

The Euro vs US theory might hold. Maybe it was a safety precaution in case of an accident., having the jack come loose or something.

Anyway, I do not have any straps in the trunk area, only in the front ( a total of 3).

Regarding the copper colored collar found on my spare holdown, that is what came with the car (I can vouch for at least 30 years)

    Cheers

    Pietro -

I didn't doubt the authenticity of your holdown, I was just curious because I had never seen one with a copper collar before, and I was wondering if anyone else had seen one. Any, as I said, your trunk area looks VERY SHARP.

    Mark,

I did not mean to sound offended in any way. I apologize if I did. Anyway... what is really fascinating about these cars is the subtle differences between each vehicle. I pitty the judges...

Regarding the front area, I did replace the servo moulding (my old one had a very bad crack in the access door area). I replaced the seals around the hood along with the faom above the radiator. The spare is the original Michelin X (pre XWX) that came with the car..

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
