What are some of the better tires out there that are on your Ferrari or other sports car. I know Ferrari currently has a deal wit Bridgestone, but that was not so in the past. My Miata currently has Yokahama AVS Sports tires on it. My 350z has Bridgestone Potenza tires on it. I love the Bridgestones. They are awesome. They grip the road so well on my z. When they wear out (which won't take a heck of a long time if I keep driving the way I do), I will definately get the BP tires again. I only wish the new Bridgestone tires in F1 worked so well.

Yokohama AVS ES100's on my 308. They compared favorably with but just below S03's.

    S03 treadwear rating is 220.
Yokohama treadwear rating is 280. A little harder and less grippy. Still plenty.
Standard passenger car tire treadwear rating 600 to 800.

    225/50-16 Front
    245/45-16 Rear
    All less than 100.00 each.

I have pushed them hard on the dry where I would have been off the road otherwise.

They pass the Northwest rain test as well. They throw water off real well. No hydroplaning.

I have the S03s on the 328. They do have a slightly odd feel to them, as though they don't sit flat to the road except when turning. And I did have a comprehensive alignment done when they were installed. I've heard from a couple of other people who don't like the feel. But if you drive in the rain, these are a good choice.

But I've been impressed with Yokos -- Of course, the OEM Advan A046s on the EVO are specialty tires, more related to the competition tires than to the AVS Sports or cheaper es100s. (The es100s are pretty impressive for the price -- close to the performance of the far more expensive AVSs, I'm told.)

At the moment, I've got Nokian WS winter tires on the EVO: Both the S03s and A046s are useless below 40degF, but it's getting around time for the spring tire and oil changes.

If you don't drive in winter or much in the rain, then you might want to consider one of the DOT-legal race tires, like the A032R (hard compound, heat cycled). They won't last very long, but they stick like crazy.

Of course, all of the max performance tires pick up all the marbles, so if you drive "off road" (or "on road construction") you need to consider if you want to put $200 a corner into sacrificial rubber.

P-Zero Directional/Assymetrico (spelling?) system on my 355. Nice tire, but I went through my rears in 5700 miles.

It a shame Ferrari is tied up with Bridgestone right now. If you have been watching the F1 races this season it seems that the Michelins everyone else is running are far superior to Bridgestone.

Toyo RA-1s on my '04 Modena. The best dual purpose (track and street) tire out there, bar none. You have to be a little careful in rain and/or cold in street driving, but they are superb on track.

Bridgestone S-02's. Next change will be Michelin Pilot Sports. Good feedback from the ppl who has them on 355s, especially on our hot Malaysian roads.

You will laught about this (or be scared...).
On my 1986 328 i still have the original Goodyear tyres... the car was kept for most of its life on stands in an environmentally controlled garage, so tyres are still almost prfect. Clearly i take a lot of care in cornering...
    Ciao

I used P7 rossos on my 355, but they only lasted 6,000miles. I was told Khumo tyres are a good race developed tyre, so last month i had them fitted. they feal great so far with lots of grip. I dont drive it in the rain so i cant give an opinion on wet work, (well i can give an opinion on wet work, but alot of you have not got the stomac for it). So time will tell about wear rate.

I am moving away from italy soon. :(
That means that the beloved one will stay alone for something like 5 yers (possibly) just being started every now and then by my brother. Why change the tyres now? When I will be back...
    Ciao

The Dunlops that came on the car when I bought it 21 months ago looked and rode fine, but they were 7 years old and hard as rock. That seemed like trouble waiting to happen, so I replaced them.

I chose Kumho Ecsta 712s, which I already had on my Honda Civic SI. It seemed strange putting Korean tires on a Ferrari, but I've already found other F-cars with Kumhos on them.

The Kumhos are undoubtedly inferior to many other "performance" tires, but they are remarkably affordable, and I'm a cheapskate at heart. They seem to perform fine in dry or rain, but I haven't really pushed them. They do squeal some on high-speed cornering, but their grip is okay. The rears seem to be wearing rather quickly and look like they'll be done by the time they have 10,000 miles on them. (They're lasting a lot longer on the Honda!)

When it comes time to replace them, I'll consider the Goodyear Eagle F1s that placed first overall in one of the current car magazines. Since the car originally came with Goodyears, that'll be fitting.

My '88 Mondial 3.2 cab came from the factory with Goodyear Eagles. Just replaced the original tires (lots of tread but hard and stiff after 17 years) with Goodyear F1 Eagles - 205 fronts and 225 rears. Great tires, very sticky in the dry and wet, track well on the straights (have been up to 150+).
