Year: 1981 Make: FERRARI Model: 308 GTI Model Detail: Price: $ ------- Mileage: ------- km Date: 12/23/2004 Ad Type: Private WITH POTENZA FO2 POLE SETTERS Comment: V8, 5 spd., fly yellow, black int., body off restoration, fuel injected, orig. Ferrari mags comes with Potenza FO2 pole setters, tires, am/fm radio, Targa roof. A must see. The thing that bothers me is. If it is restored could it be due to an accident, or major rust or or or . What to you think of a fair price
308 GTSi $15-$25K If it's in great condition no more than $25K. For a bit more than that you can get a good QV that has a lot more performance. Good luck!
George, Not anywhere near enough information to give you a fair assesment. Who did the "restoration", and to what degree/refinement? Was the body truly "taken off"? I doubt it. When was the last major service performed? How many miles, what is the current health of the motor, has it had any major work performed. What is the condition of the suspension, shocks and bushings? Average cars of this year, sell for around $22 to 25k usd. Top, low mileage, very original cars, with no needs might hit low $30's. Ratty examples go for high teens. 308's are relatively inexpensive cars, so any "restoration" will likely be a compromise (Paul Newman a big exception). I would buy an excellent condition original car, over a poorly restored one.
George just trade in your $12,000 1980 Honda CBX and call it good. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42808
Holy crap, what is he smokin'? Here are market values I found on the net: http://www.cbxworld.com/article137.html
I rather thought the same thing. It made me think back to the red, 1980 CBX I used to own and how I was regretting selling it now that they are in the $12k range. Yeah right. Hmmmm. I've got $10k to $15k in my pocket. I want a collectable Honda streetbike. RC30....CBX. RC30.....CBX. One one hand you have the most iconic Honda motorcycle ever (some would argue that is the case regardless of brand) and on the other you have the most evil handling, overweight piece of 70's excessive-ness ever built who's sole redeeming quality is it has 2 extra cylinders. He is in Toronto, though, so perhaps were talking Canadian funds which would merely make it ridiculously priced rather than drug induced. Sorry for the thread hijacking.
I am guessing that you mean S-02 Pole Position tires, not 'F02 Pole Setters'....but that is just a typo, so no big deal. As for the car, as others have said, we really need more information. Actual miles, what kind of records it has, and quality of restoration, are all big factors. Do you have pictures of the car? If you do, then please post the pictures so that we can view this car. Thanks, and good luck.
Dunno Kie, the US dollar is sucking pretty bad these days....either way it is way out in the stratosphere of impossibility, US or Canadian dollars... But hey, many owners have unreasonable expectations of what their cars or motorcycles are worth. I've seen Ferrari owners asking outa sight prices too...perhaps they are really not interested in selling.
Really? Just for fun I did a search on Ebay using "CBX" as the phrase and looking within completed items in the motorcycles for sale category. 7 items came up all in the 2 to $4k range with the exception of the one bike that (allegedly) sold for $12,119.79 . Here is a link to the search results: http://motors.search-completed.ebay.com/cbx_Motorcycles_W0QQfromZR7QQsacategoryZ6024QQsamotorscategorymapZ6024QQsoitemstatusZ2QQsosortpropertyZ1 If that $12k sale really was for real then I believe the one CBX freak in the world willing to pay that much for one of these has done his thing and, well, more power to him. Rolm I see that you mentioned that there are several '79 or '80 CBX's that have been selling on Ebay for as much as $16k. I could only find the one auction for a CBX in that range. Perhaps you could share with us where these other bikes are that sold on Ebay for $16k? If you don't mind my asking, why not just contact the underbidders on the $12k bike and tell them the bike of their dreams is waiting but they don't need to hassle with the Ebay shenanigans?
Thank-you great suggestion I will do that and as far as searching on e-bay it seems that once the listing has expired the history records seem to also disappear. So it seems I was correct on the $12k to $16k. Like I said unrestored bikes and cars sell for much more then so-called rebuilt or restored Bikes/Cars. Never forget it's orginal once
Well, Rolm, you were the one that asked us to search/check Ebay for the $16k CBX... I still haven't seen one. However, a very nice Subaru salesperson is assuring me that indeed they do sell in this "range" so it must be true. Luckily for all of us CBX shoppers/collectors this nice man has a an extremely clean (Did I mention it was original and unrestored? They are only that way once, you know) one for what seems like a bargain at the "lower" end of the "range". I mean, the guy is practically giving it away at $12k seeing as these machines are trading hands for as high as $16k. Sarcasm "off" for a moment. Rolm you mention you were correct on the $12 to $16k range after I posted my search findings. 6 bikes in the $2 to $4k range and 1 (thats ONE, as in singular) bike that somewhat dubiously closed at $12,119. Perhaps it is just me, but if someone is going to proclaim that a certain commodity trades in a specific low-to-high range they need to show me proof of the high end before they toot their own horn about how correct they are.
Actually, Rolm seems to be trying to "set" the price for the CBX....here he is on the MX6 forum offering his insights on CBX prices: Rolm Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Markham, Canada Car: 94 MX-6 LS Seller Rating: (0) Quote: Originally Posted by Mr.JasonBH Im not sure the bike would be worth the value of our cars.. 1980 Honda CBX are selling in the range of $7k to $10K
In fact, on the MX6 forum, he made the same offer on his CBX that he made on the F-chat forum..... Rolm Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Markham, Canada Car: 94 MX-6 LS Seller Rating: (0) Trade 1980 Honda CBX for an MX6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I will trade a mint 1980 Honda CBX ( This is a real collector Classic Bike) for a nice MX6. What yaw got.
Rolm is also hawking his CBX over on the BMW forums too: BMW-forums.com _ Classifieds Sell & Buy _ Wanted 1995 to 1999 "325 or 328" Posted by: Rolm Aug 20 2004, 08:06 PM Wanted a 1995 to 1999 325 or 328. Must be in good condition and located in the Toronto area or I can trade you a 1980 Honda CBX Bike in mint cond. If you have one for sale please email me at [email protected]
If this bike is such a hot comodity, why is he having no takers?? The better question is why is he not actually selling it on Ebay and getting his $12k to $16k...instead of trying to convince us of it's value?
Are we not supposed to be discussing 308 (GTI?) prices here? This thread is starting to taste like sushi....
I will give you $1200-$1600 for the bike... that is the real market value if you want to move it quicjky, Or you could just continue to post it on every car forum in the world and look like an idiot.
WITH POTENZA FO2 POLE SETTERS Comment: V8, 5 spd., fly yellow, black int., body off restoration, fuel injected, orig. Ferrari mags comes with Potenza FO2 pole setters, tires, am/fm radio, Targa roof. A must see. Correct me if I am wrong, but like mine I think the 1981 308s all came with TRX rims. If it has Potenzas on it it the rims are not original or they really stretched the tires over those rims.
I love my 1981 308 GTSi. I would not let go of mine for under $35,000. I have driven a 308 QV and a 328 just last week and I really did not notice that much difference in the power or ride. Both had a more modern interior, but both felt like my 308 in more ways then one. I think people get hung-up over details that really do not matter in the long run. If you want a Ferrari, Buy one. I did not buy mine as an investment. I bought it because it was what I was looking for and the price was something I could afford. I am so proud of my 308 and I enjoy it everytime I get in it and cruise down the highway. Put a price on that.............. Jeff
After looking at about a dozen 308's i ended up with the one in the best shape of all of 'em. Just happened to be an '80i. I wouldn't go back and take any of the carbed or Qv's i saw for the one i got. To me overall condition and appearance was vital. People get up close to my car and ask if it's been restored if they happen to know how old it is or if they don't they say "nice Ferrari". Sometimes it's not what the market thinks a cars worth but what you think it's worth. I didn't know of one that sold for what i paid for it but then again i didn't know of another in such good shape at any price. I'm sure it existed but how much longer did i wanna look after investing four months already. So what's that worth????? For the record i paid $27k.
It's your car you should know what's your car is worth, you set the price but start high as people tend to ask for lower than what you're asking for. Remember nobody knows your car better than you do.
This is a Fact and so many people seem to forget this. If all you are going to do is listen to other peoples opinions, there are so many of them, you may have a great car in front of you but somebody will find something wrong with it and you will loose your chance. Before I bought my car, I had looked at 4 other 308’s with prices from $22,000 to $30,000. I went with the seller of each car and went for a drive. I know nothing about Ferrari’s but I think I am a pretty good mechanic and can tell when something is not right. There was a little something wrong with each one but overall they were in great condition. I almost bought the last one I looked at until MY 308 GTSi came up for sale. Now here is the funny part, My 308 had more problems with it that you can imagine. Needed a clutch and a 30,000 mile major service, CAT’s were burnt out and restricting exhaust flow, and the list goes on and on..... So I bought the car. $24,000 bucks. So why did I do that??????? I took the car to Eugenios Ferrari in Glendale, Ca and had him do the 30,000 mile major and change the clutch. While he was in there he replaced the starter, alternator and various hoses and gave me a list of things he felt needed attention to bring the car up to spec. Now I have a base line to start from. The car was brought up to a certain point and I took it from there. Since that time she has gotten a new TUBI exhaust and Hyper-Flow CATS, New brake hoses, Birdman fuse blocks (Fantastic), new rims and tires (Good Bye TRX) and the list goes on. So the moral to the story is this. I now know the entire condition of my car inside and out. Had I bought one of the other cars, at the higher price, I would have bought a standard looking Red Ferrari that is maybe 1 sec faster than mine in a quarter mile, and I still might have had to go through all of this to get the car to point that Mine is in right now. I have seen this happen here on F-Chat. Also, I was at a meet last week and there was a 308 QV and a 328 there. Both were red and looked stock. Everybody there was looking at MY CAR and taking pictures of MY CAR. Not often you see a WHITE FERRARI with new chrome rims and low profile tires, Sound System from an outside theater and when I started it up, the TUBI drowned out the other two cars. You almost could not tell they were running. I drove the other two cars and really did not notice much difference in power at all. Now maybe if I were going to track the car, I might want the QV but around town, Hell you will never notice the difference and neither will the general public. A Ferrari is a Ferrari in their minds and they do not tend to subscribe to F-Chat to discover the difference. Nor do they care.................... My 0.2¢ Image Unavailable, Please Login
