I have an opportunity to buy a 2001 360 Spider. I have been told by many people not to buy it as the repair costs are astronomical. I don't believe in the saying that if you can afford the Ferrari, you can afford the costs. I don't want to be frustrated because I am being gauged for repairs and maintainence, I don't like being ripped of I can afford it or not. That being said, what is a typical maintence schedule on this car, and what should I expect on average to pay for repairs in a year. Any objective input would be very much appreciated.
Not you again... I figured after geting your pants off in the previous thread you'd have learned to stop posing. (see last page in http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=135185602#post135185602) Don't waste your time on this one guys.
Thanks for the heads up, I was just putting some numbers together. FWIW, here's a few very rough service numbers anyway. 5k - $1,500 15k - $2,500 30k - $5,000
A "used" 2001 360 spyder ?, Oh my !! , how the mighty have fallen! Why dont you ask your salesman at F. who promised you the new 430? LOL! How's this for objective input.... Go home Poser/troll, put away your Hotwheels Ferrari, mommy's calling you to dinner !
Some guy says he knows who I am because I had some honest, albeit non complimetary and controversial posts regarding some of the respondents inaccurate information, and you believe him. Even if I was the guy he met, how would he know it was me, that is ridiculous! Do I converse, or have I retorted like a 20 year old, Perhaps, you should use better judgement. Again there are some knowledgeable people in here, and there are some giving wrong advice, period. I am sure those have spent some time on here would agree. People got offended when I quoted the FOO salesman, who told me that many of the people on here are posers, and that many were very wrong on their advice.. Unfortunately, the reality is that I have has better advice about Ferrari's on Pete's Boxster's Board then I have here. In fact you might want to read the stream of emails regardig Ferrari's yesterday as they are bashing Ferrari's quality and price gauging, which I tend to belive is biased. That is consitent with alot of what I heard about Ferrari's from people who are far removed from Ferrari's. Up until now I have had to accept the advice of the FOO salesman who said there is rarely problems with Ferraris, or from friends and acquaintances who have very little actual expeirences with Ferrari's, or from Porsche groups who are obviously Porsche biased. I am interested in what Ferrari owners have to say, as I have heard some horror stories about Ferrari ownership and I want to know if it the exception and not the rule. If I was a "poser" why would I have any interest at all in the maintainence or repair of a Ferrari. Further, if I was a poser and felt that somehow I was "caught", it is is easy enough to get a different login name. I don't understand your thought process.
He's baaaaaaaaaaaack. Tom busted this guy hard. The biggest j-off to post in the Canada section. Go back to school.
Why indeed? Your previous thread and posts speak for themselves....people can form their own opinions, I know I sure did As for taking another user name, you might want to review this boards regulations regarding multiple user names for the same person...but then again, when does a big shot like you have to follow the rules?
The FOO salesman's name is Marco at the Vaughan location. If you think I am full of it, which I can understand, and you are really tha curious just call and ask him if he has been negotiating with someone from Waterloo over the past month and a half. Again, I am not hiding, it just became ugly. If I was I could of obtained a new login id. As far as the 430, I have decided I don't want to wait and would like the 360 now, and there is one that is perfect. That being said I will still have a deposit down for a 430 and if I still want it after driving the 360, I will just trade it in. I am having my doubts like I said above as I have been hearing alot of negative things about the Ferrari, since I am opening up to friends that I am interested in one. If you want to continue to spar, not my preference, but I have no problem with it. I can understand the "excitement" in here, as it looks like it was the most lively thread in a long time. If you would like to help me out and give some advice, that would be preferred.
You want advise from goldy(steve) or anyone else that ownes a ferrari here in Ontario who is on this board..here it is....buy the car or keep your trap shut. You are a talker who offends...you dont own a car, you offend real owners, then you call them "posers" the only poser here my freind is you. When you can actually afford to pay for gas in one of these things then call. Ive owned ferraris before you even knew what they were. You were very offensive in the Canada section. Now your trying to go in other sections and your being called on it. You are the Troll of the year !! Stay in your fake Pcar section on another board. You are not really welcomed here with that attitude. As a matter of fact, if you end up with a ferrari somehow, I will sell mine and go to lambo....you and people like you are the main reason why the population thinks many ferrari owners are as*es.
Interesting. Well, FWIW my '01 360F1 has been a perfect car. Fluid changes and that's it. Knock on wood. The key is knowing the history and if it's a trouble free car then it should continue as one. Wow, tough crowd.......
I aprreciate your thoughts, thank you. Yes, tough crowd, some of it is warranted as I gave them a hard time, and some of it isn't, just some retaliation of some bruised egos.
My '02 has also been perfect. I've changed the belts and fluids based on time. The only issue the car had was that it needed a new clutch when I purchased it. The car had 5,300 miles on it. After I put an additional 4,000 miles on, the clutch showed only 6% wear.
I have read, that some people go through the clutch quickly, and others hardly at all. I wonder if it is 100% attributable to the way someone drives or if there is inconsistencies in quality. It does make me feel better that some people have been reatively problem free. BTW I love the Caddyshack quote, that was the first VCR tape I bought when we got our first VCR back in the early 80's I must of watched it 100 times, I can recite most of the movie. Fine choice! How about a Fresca, huh, hmm.....!
Dude, It was never about WHO you are, its about what was said...the only one who seemed to be interested in "credentials" was yourself....you certainly dont have to explain your situation to me, and visa-versa However, if you'll take the time to re-read your initial thread, youll see that many people tried to help you out, including myself....but your attitude and impatience turned what should have been a low key introductory post into a slam-fest! Remember, these boards are little communitys, especially the local ones, and you dont just walk in as a "new kid on the block" and start demanding info and shooting your mouth off...in any situation. As I said before, I dont care how rich or poor you are, how old or new your ferrari is or is going to be...we're all here to share in the passion that is Ferrari...owners and enthusiasts alike. Certainly, some of the posts directed at you were out of line, but you were no stranger to crossing that line yourself. I guess you should learn to play nice if you want the other kids to play with you... I dont want to waste my or your time trading pot shots...but whats done is done....I cant change the past....Im not afraid of going toe-to-toe either, but it is not my prefered means of communication. Anyways, I dont usually question anyones "legitimacy", so I won't start now...if you are legit, then good luck with your Ferrari ownership. But, if you ever plan on being welcomed in the Canadian section again, I would suggest first PM'ing a few choice individuals with an appropriate apology...people have long memories...as my recent post in the Canada section (regarding your resurfacing) indicates.
I agree with what you say for the most part. It did not start off uncomfortable, it just got uglier and uglier. It started by what I quote the orignial sales rep had told me at FOO. This came from him not me, although I will acknowldege I agreed partially on what he said. But I was only quoting him, and people were taking it personally and getting mad at me. And then it got uglier on both mine and other's part. That being said, without being insulting to anyone here, the amount of feedback here has been minimal not just for me but for other peoples questions. I am dissapointed with the amount of information that is circulated here. When I was researching the Porsche before I bought it, it was unbelievable the amount and quality of responses I received in a matter of hours. Perhaps that is because this is a much smaller user base, there is not as many regulars, and there are less actual owners. IMHO it is really ashame that in the Canadian section the most popular section is the Spotter Threads, and not talk about the cars themselves. My frustration has shown, and for that I will apologize, that I have not been able to obtain the information I need to feel comfortable with a Ferrari purchase. I want to buy one very much as I have wanted one since being a young kid seeing 328s, but my gut is telling me that I am going to have problems and frustration and really regret the purchase. It is difficult to buy one when my gut has served me very well in decision making in my life.
You have to do what you think is best. I've owned Porsche's, MB's and the like and I've never experienced anything like the feeling of driving this car. For me, nothing has come close to the feeling I get when I start the car. I've owned the car for 9 months and have paid for a timing belt change $1550 and an oil change $400. These things could have been put off but I'm anal about service and taking care of my car. Also, the help I've received on this board has been priceless. People have always come forward and answered every question I've had and with a great attitude. The people I've met because of owning the car have also been exceptional, nothing like the stereotype. Best of luck on your decision.
Thanks for you advice, it is very much apprecitated. As far as the board, that is why I moved to the US board becuase I think the Canadian is too limited as far as the amount of legitmate users. The Porsche board does not separate by region. Thanks again.
You are funny....you slam every ferrari owner that ownes a 308/328/tr/boxer/348/355 as the old model and these guys are posers because they cant afford a new one, and then you say that a rep who makes lets say $60k a yr, who by the way, is not even allowed to drive the cars there says that "ferrarichat" is full if wannabees and dont listen to that forum and you want us to understand. Your the joke my freind, you dont own a car yet, the rep over there does not either, and you called ferrarichat people posers and wannabees. As far as Im concerned you are referring to not only the Canada section, but the US and Europe and Asia section as well. You had no right to start insulting owners, then you and still do now promote this Porche site that you admire and said you received great info on ferraris better than here, yet you look for the acceptence. Go back and ask your p freinds and take there advice since its better than what you got here. If you wish to make amends, you should first start by subscribing to the site as a Rossa subscriber....money is no issue for you since you sold this big tech company and can retire at the young age of 30 something. Then, since you listen to the dealer and admire there point of view, buy the 360 and out your money where your mouth is. Unfortunately, you were very strong in your previous statements that it had to be a new 430, you would never buy used. So swollow and try and buy the 360 and then post the pics. SUrely you can afford a $200k 360 since you were so hung up on the 270K 430. WHat are you worried about maintence costs for...a clutch is about 12k, and oil changes once a year, and the odd tires, chump change for a man who just sold this major business out in Waterloo Ontario. I mentioned many times to play nice and you kept shooting your mouth off like you knew everything. The dealer said, the dealer said. My perdiction.....you dont have $3.00 in your pocket.
Most technical type questions, regarding maintenance and/or trouble shooting are best asked here..either in the modern section (360), or the tech section. The local sections (at least the Canadian one)are mostly used for spotting and local concerns, some times specific questions, but nobody really cares much. Regarding your situation, speaking as an owner of many porsches before making the leap to Ferrari is this...go with the gut. What I mean is, a Porsche is a Porsche...you wont have any problems with it and you wont expect any problems with it...over 5 years, 3 different models and a lot of klm's I had zero problems..which is what I expected...german engineering is second to none. With a Ferrari, you have to expect problems...hopefully little ones, but possibly big ones, and expensive maintenance depending on the model. If you expect them, they wont annoy you as much, and you wont ever regret your purchase. Both my 355 and 550 had little problems even after being fully sorted and major maintenance done by the dealer just before purchase. Was I happy about it?..no!..but I expected it, so it didnt sour the experience for me..its all about the attitude with owning and maintaining an F car. I can assure you the pleasure of driving an Fcar is worth the extra hassles over driving a "reliable" but boring porsche. I went from a 2002 996TT x-50 bought new from pfaff to a 1995 355 coupe, and the Fcar was clearly the more enjoyable ride. Yes, the porsche could outperform, be more reliable and was easier to drive than the Fcar...but those factors didnt influence my "FUN FACTOR"...the 355 won hands down, the 550 is different but also more enjoyable than any porsche I can think of (Carrera GT excepted, of course) What Im trying to say is most people coming to Ferrari for the first time, myself included, felt the same way as you. They heard the horror stories and the super duper expensive maintenance, and ended up really worrying about it. It doesnt matter what model you get or how old..its going to have some sorting out and some loose ends..only a lucky few have had zero probs. If your car is new or newer with a warranty, you will pay less for the repairs, but will still miss the time its "in the shop"...and it usually takes a while to schedule and repair...that also sucks. But when your driving it...it all seems worthwhile. So I guess its up to you, if you need rock solid reliability to sleep well at nights (and some people do) and will feel ripped of if your car has problems some of the time, then an Fcar is not for you. If you can get into the mindset I have described above, regarding expecting a few probs here and there, I assure you it will be the best driving experience of your life. This is my best answer to your question. Regarding Marco at F., he was my salesman for both my cars and I trust him, also really enjoyed dealing with him....the initial few problems I had with my latest purchase he took care of, and you can always buy a warranty from the dealership on most newer cars as sort of an insurance policy against dreadfully expensive catastrophic repairs. But it will always still be a dice roll, it really is a part of the Fcar experience to some degree. Is it worth it?..only you can answer that question.
Maybe its the cold air up here?...it thickens our skins ! Tough, not really, we're your polite, accomadating neighbours to the north...producers of the Terrance and Phillip show, keepers of the good beer and booze of North America, producers of many kilowatts of cheap hydro electric power for our protective friends down south.... whats not to like, Eh?
I think it's time someone traced his IP and ordered up and old fashioned ass whoopin'. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with this kid. If he's not a kid then I am digusted by this. No one can be this retarded and cumbersome when it comes to simple posting on an online forum. Stop concocting this annoying web of deciet and insult, grow some pubic hairs and own yourself up to the man you MIGHT have a chance at being.
