OK, If you read my other thread, you would know that I have a caliper piston on (both) inner front that won't retract, so I can't put the new R4S carbon kevlar pads on, although I can put the orig pad (with 5mm) back on the inside and brakes will work fine this weekend. Rebuild of caliper to follow later. In the meantime, can I run the carbon kevlar pads on the outside with OEM pads on inside, or will I get uneven heating of rotor causing warpage? (My guess is that its too risky to try, but I wasn't thinking that when I was blurry eyed last night putting the pads back on getting ready to head out to St. Louis track event later today) Should I take the carbon kevlar pads back off, or run it with mixed pads and see what happens? (Maybe I am getting too technical, but exp with high end cars makes me be that way!) Ciao! Jim

Don't mix new pads on one side and worn pads on the other side of the caliper.
Open the bleed valve and use a spreader, or clamp, or head to Harbor Freight and find something cheap to retract the stuck piston.

You might also double check to see if the caliper has a small cover on that side with access to an allen head adjuster for that piston.

    Good Luck!

You're going to a track event with stuck pistons in your brake calipers???

    WOW!

Fix the brakes. Then go to the track.

Non-functioning calipers will warp rotors for sure due to non-equal pressure being applied. Way more so than differential heat from mis-matched pad compounds, although that's not a good idea either.

Not stuck or froze actually, just won't retract far enough to privide clearance for the new pad. I checked for adjustment and didn't see any, and have been informed by others that this model has no adjustment screw. I still have 5-6 mm on the 'worn' pads, so they are going back in. Seems to have good pedal pressure and force grip force at the piston, just won't retract back in more than about a mm. I am going to get a WSM or talk to my mechanic before I start exerting hard forces with a spreader. And no, I won't be doing any hot laps on the track with a questionable/nonfunctioning piston. The guy I am seeing at the track is a TR owner/prof driver (Roland Linder) so maybe he will have some advice. Otherwise, I will be just spectating this weekend, but driving it that way doesn't concern me as it apparently was just fine before I took it apart. I still think there is some kind of adjustment, since both sides are behaving in exactly the same manner.

Its tough luck but I would pass on the track event, suck it up and fix it right. I wouldnt mix and match either, sounds to much like a macgiver repair (remember him welding a connecting rod with a quarter and battery cables?) It sucks but pass on the event. If you were going to a show then fine, use the old pads and go, rebuild at the end of the season.

Did I get this wrong or are you attempting to go on the track with stuck pistons in at least one caliper and pads that are mis matched?

    What???? Is this a Joke?

I hope you and your car are all right. But more importantly, I hope everyone else that was unfortunate enough to be out on the track with you is ok.

It's people like you that scare the sh*t out of me at the track.

One hopes that the tech inspection catches this but unfortunately I've seen events where it won't.

If you were joking it wasn'y very funny but it was good and stupid.

Considering the people that have been killed this year at events it's also rather tasteless.

Sorry if you might think I'm being a pr*ck but since I do many events each year and do see some stuff scary stuff I take it seriously.
