This one probably comes closer to what it once was. Let there be not misunderstanding, IF I buy it, I have no plans with it other than "rescueing" it from further deterioration. The original chassis is still around although it is unknown to me in what shape it is (most probably used for a replica Barchetta or Spider Corsa I fear) but theoretically, the two could be mated again. But... Cavallino lists the 212 Ghia coupe in TOP shape at a maximum of only 300K$ which kinda rules out the thorough restoration and "mating process of chassis and body" that would be required. So, I am just trying to find a purpose for it other than to let it rot away. Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is a story which say that 0191EL (today one-off Ghia coupe for Peron) was originally a 212 Inter Ghia convertible. As 0191EL is today LHD and both 212 Inter Ghia convertible were RHD, I wonder if in fact the story could be that : - 0191EL : originally a 212 Inter Ghia coupe for Peron = today still original - 0205EL : originally a 212 Inter Ghia convertible 1 of 2 grey = Jack's hulk - 0233 EL riginally a 212 Inter Ghia convertible 2 of 2 yellow 52 Turin show BTW : 0189EL is a 212 Inter Ghia berlina 4 posti. I saw it at Monaco in 1991 : it has nothing to do with our story.
i dunno...in the bugatti world there exists the remains of a rebodied bug...built by an individual and actually well documented in its time..as it sits it has no chassis/engine,fenders and not much is left but the original bugatti firewall, homemade door sills and the top..sort of as a unit...no doors or numbers, identified only by it's unique shape..way rougher than the "ferrari" remains shown....yet it appears in the bugatti register [under it's former chassis no.] and seems to attract lots of attention [altho no one has attempted a restoration yet]..i'd say get the ferrari remains [ yes stu- it's still a ferrari]at a reasonable cost and find a dry place for it; you just never know....
You never know, but I'd rather be kicked in the nuts than try to "restore" this rotting piece of... whatever it is. It is a footnote in history and deserves its place but that's where the line is drawn. Preserve it for future generations and let it be, IMHO. Profiting from a venture such as this is a very slippery slope. (Arlie, kept that debate out of this one)
Do you mean to say you have found out that it actually is 0205 EL? The picture I posted from the Prunet book is also RHD btw. It could be 0205 EL but I don't have it as a cabriolet in my files (Raab lists it as a coupe). In fact I don't have it in my list of Ghia bodied Ferraris. There should be a book written about Ferrari by Ghia. There are still many onknowns about these cars. Ciao, Peter
I think I'll make my buying decision based on how well I get along with the current owner in-real-life (in other words, if it can be bought to preserve it from being turned into soda cans...) and if the price is in the range of what was mentioned earlier in this thread. Does anybody have more information on the whereabouts of the chassis and/or the original engine?
Hi Peter, Yes, it is actually the original hull of 0205EL. It was a coupe until the "modifications" were applied and was turned into a "convertible"".
As far as I'm concerned, it's the engine and chassis that make a car what it is; not the coachwork. Even if the body can be saved, what are you going to put under it??
In my opinion, you should buy it cheap and mount it on the wall of your office/garage/?. A lot of the shops that work on these cars have similar hulks lying around or in use as garden ornaments. Buy it because you think its neat and you want it as a wall display or garden ornament and pay accordingly. I doubt there is a significant amount of historical value remaining. Art S.
Agreed. We wouldn't want the common sense and logic of this thread to spill over into any older threads!!! I'll give $550 for the hulk.
We should all chip in and give it to Rob for Christmas. Then he will finally have his vintage Ferrari (sort of) Art S.
Of course, in reality, the old hulk will probably get stolen now that it's picture has been posted on F-chat, just like that $500 928 Porsche did down in Texas.
Arlie, I know of an original front corner (headlight area) of a 250 GTO hanging on a wall and an original 250 SWB front clip garden ornament. Let me know when you have your mask and gloves ready. Regards, Art S
We move tonight! Halloween will be our cover. They will never suspect a pair of prowlers dressed in black on this night. And when the goods are gone in the morning, it will be attributed to a Halloween prank. Let the resto begin!
