Hi all, I've just returned from my first Goodwood Revival weekend and my word, was it spectacular. I've been surprised I have not seen any discussion about it pre-event, not even on the UK section of this forum. The Festival of Speed (FoS) in June definitely generated interest but the Revival has been a bit neglected. Shame, because it is truly a gobsmackingly amazing event! If you don't know what it's about: Goodwood circuit was used as a Formula 1 circuit in the late '50ies but other circuits were favoured until it was closed down in 1966. During the Goodwood Revival the circuit, in exactly the same state as it was in 1965, is raced in various competition classes, all of which must consist of cars prior to 1966. The audience attending dresses up in 40ies, 50ies or 60ies outfits to enhance the time-warp experience. To provide even more entertainment and the sense of time travel into the days of yore, air displays featuring Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancaster bombers were arranged. I drove my 550 from Holland for the weekend, as I did with the FoS last June, and that contributed to what would already have been an awesome experience. It seemed to be Maranello weekend - we spotted 4 Maranellos (apart from mine) on the first day, and several each day after. To finish off the weekend, we happened to end up in the Channel Tunnel with a Swatters Blue 575 - a truly strange experience to share the same train carriage with a car that similar (see the photo). We followed each other for about 120kms in France and Belgium, before he left the highway. Nice man - he had a 550 before his 575 and drove 160k in it without a hitch. Another nice experience was that on Sunday we met a guy in a restaurant (absolute pure coincidence) in Portsmouth, who had raced at Goodwood during the '50ies. It was lovely talking to him about his golden days, and to have him provide us with some insights. Below are some pics which will hopefully convey the message: "GO TO GOODWOOD!". It is an awesome and unique experience. Thanks for the great pics. I'd like to get to know the gal holding the Row 8 sign. Your camera stopped the prop on that Spitfire. Special camera?

I like the Row 9 girl better, and so did the guy in the 250F (No 26!) The shutter speed on the Spitfire shot was 1/2000th I think - good thing the Germans didn't have those camera's back then.... Onno

Ferrari convertible I couldn't place (help required!), gorgeous Frazer-Nash, aerobatics, and finally two Blue Maranellos happily meeting up in a train under the English Channel... Couple from the car park! First my own 550 (left, in a custom Porsche Nightblue) next to a TdF 550. Next, a very very small selection of what we spotted. There was so much to see - I just didn't take the time to photograph it all. Suffice to say if you don't have tickets come anyway because the car park areas are worth your while! Great event and super pictures. It is similar to our Vintage car weekend we just had at Limerock Park in Conn. in the US. I'm sure someone will post pictures in either the NY or Conn area. We have various class cars from the 40's to the early/mid 70's. Great event but people don't dress for the period. I also like the WWII aircraft . Great touch. So maybe when I'm in europe again I can plan it to be somewhere around this event. Thanks
Thanks for the great pictures: those Napier look vicious! I did not realize they made racing cars as well with those engines.
great pics. it looks like, since there's no usgp next year, we may opt out for goodwood. i too think the revival is the premier event.
Great photos! There are some photo threads in the Vintage (thru 365 GTC4) section. That Napier powered car is great! Anyone know what sort of engine it is? They also did aircraft engines, such as the Sabre, which powered the Typhoon and some models of Tempest. I've got a book on Napier engines, I have to see if I can spot it. ps: I presume you guys are talking about the Hurricane, there aren't any photos of Spitfires posted It must have been a great experience to see and hear all those cars!
LOL - nice impression Onno and welcome back. This surely is one of the events I need to visit in the near future. As I told you I have visited the Festival of Speed twice. Unforgetable too, but I think this event has more impact. Cars are really racing each other face to face. Bob
Great impression Onno, I would like to hear everything about this trip this afternoon! The pics are great as usual.
Thanks for sharing these wonderful images. I remember that I have seen a report abt the car with BABS on the hood. Wasn't it used to reach the speed record on the beaches? If I am right, the chain of the car, cut off the head of the driver. The car was burried on the beach and after many years digged up and restored. Best regards, Vu
It's a Hurricane. Preceded the Spitfire. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is to aircraft what Goodwood is automobiles. Worth a visit - They fly their aircraft regularly. Lovely way to spend a day.
