Wonder what this will bring. Steve McQueen was a little ahead of my time but had enormously good (and expensive) taste in cars. I don't know too much about him but remember when he died. I've seen the chase in Bullitt (?) many times.

I found out about the auction while - of all things - buying a T-shirt online. LOL.

Since really nice 917's are $3-5MM.......I'd bet that this car easily reachs that level even though it is "just' a 908 due to it's pedigree.......the auctioneer's estimate of $1-2M is way to low IMHO. Just look at his brown Lusso sale for proof.......

This car has been shopped around at $2M with no takers. I was offered it in the last six months for $1.85M, it may turn out to be a decision I regret but 917's are oh so much better looking.

McQueen's 908 Porsche is bottom line "priceless", easy 6 million dollar unit today, after all, all other well known early long endurance race prototype racecars in the world have never ever race in the 24 Hours of Lemans 5 times in-a-row! McQueen's old 908 Porsche is an old "racing mule" to say the least. Remember that it took the Ferrari works racing team "2" 512's prototype racecars "in the end", to strike-down the Porsche factory's Mcqueen 908 Porsche at the 1970 12-Hours of Sebring. The 12 hour race did in fact turn out to be a once in a lifetime "dead heat" long endurance race event, which is now documented worldwide, in countess books, as being the most historical long endurance race ever ran in history (by closest finishing racing times).

And as for the much more powerful 917K's Porsche prototype racecars, that were also entered in the same 12 hour race by the Porsche works, they all in fact DNF's in the end... OMG!
