While I had the overhead console out of the TR for the dome light mods ( http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=226885 ) I hard-wired for the V1.
I thought it wise to stay away from the copious wiring for the driving lights and rear window heat so I pulled power from the red wire that supplies 12v to the map light and grounded to the ground screw in the windshield frame. Other wires in the console also use this screw.

I used an inline disconnect plug so I wouldn't have to unscrew the ground screw when I dropped the console the next time.
I tried using the ground for the map light but found that it was dependent on the manual switch in the console or the opening of either door to complete the circuit.

I used 3M Super Weather Strip Adhesive to mount the plug because the self-stick velcro supplied comes loose on hot days.
I had the option to use the "coiled" type cord to hook up but thought it was too distracting so I used the thin cord that was supplied in the kit. The thin cord is about 16" longer than needed for the installation so I coiled and stowed it in the console around the outer edges, tied with cable ties.

I secured the wire to the inside front of the console with a dab of the 3M adhesive and put some 10mil tape over it because of the proximity to the backs of the driving light and window heat switches. Everything has to lay pretty flat there. The 10mil tape can be found in the plumbing department of the hardware store, it is a low-temp tape, not rated for electrical connections.

The power supply is hot all the time so the V1 has to be turned on and off manually. The V1 supply plug mounted to the front of the console has a spare outlet as well.

A radar detector, an essential "tool" required in the States to (potentially) avoid speeding tickets by "Johny Law", aka "The Police".

Lucky buggers. We get locked up and they throw away the key if we get caught with one of them.

The coppers have radar detector detectors.

And they will shoot you on the spot if you have a radar detector detector detector. Mongrols!!

Having one is turned on reminds me to watch my speed, even when I'm not misbehaving. I would think law enforcement wouldn't mind so much if I had a device in the car that would remind me to look at the speedometer once in a while.;);)

    Google "Valentine 1".
Check options for discreet mounting unit with displays from inside your rear view mirror. No black box stuck to your windshield.

I don't really know about the rest of the country, but Hawaii has completely converted to Laser detectors. Not to downtalk the V1, since I had one for years until my old car was broken into, but the Laser detectors work a little differently. By the time the V1 tells you about it they already know how fast you're going. We have to get Laser jammers out here. They're pretty cool in the fact that they send back all sorts of different speed signals and really confuse the detectors. And they're still legal in Hawaii. :)

Because of the "instant on" nature of laser operation there isn't ANY detector on the market that can read one soon enough to avoid detection except for picking up "scatter" when it is used on a car ahead of you, this the V1 will do and has done for me. Go to their website and you will find a continuous upgrade program for these as well.

They are still using plenty of 'K' and 'Ka' band around here so it's still a worthwhile option for me.

As you said, "Laser jammers are needed".
