I have recently learned of an interesting opportunity to indulge in some history and aviation on Oahu. A gentleman flying out of Kalaeloa Airport (Barbors Point Naval Air Station) gives flying tours of sites related to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The airplane that he uses is an SNJ WWII era training plane.

The two hour experience costs $1200. The cost is significant, sure, but it does seem very reasonable when the operating costs of a genuine WWII warbird are considered. He also does 20 minute familiarization flights for $285 and 30 minute flights that include aerial maneuvers and a chance for the customer to actually fly the airplane for $475.

This gentleman also does free flyovers for veterans' funeral services, provides free flights for Wounded Warriors and for children sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

I have no connection to this operation. It seems like a very worthwhile way to spend some time and money for residents and visitors alike.

I read that article and it looks like an incredible ride, but I'd probably get sick.

This is the making of one of those newspaper headlines that reads, "Rich guy goes on WWII plane ride and dies". I'm sure the guy is a competent pilot. I don't trust the plane.
