Copy/paste from member "Ex Rockstar" in t**mspeed From Inside Line "Ferrari Enzo Replacement Will Have Carbon Chassis and Mid-Mounted V12" "Just the Facts: * The Ferrari Enzo replacement will use a mid-mounted V12. * It will feature carbon composite construction. * A hybrid system is in development and likely to debut in the Enzo replacement. * Production models will continue to use an aluminum chassis. REGGIO EMILIA, Italy Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa has confirmed that the replacement for the Enzo will have a mid-mounted V12 and use a carbon-fiber chassis. Speaking at the launch of the 458 Spider, Felisa told Inside Line that the car may also employ hybrid technology and confirmed that, "Ferrari is testing hybrid prototypes." The CEO admitted that some of the knowledge gained from the development of Ferrari's Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) in Formula One could prove relevant to road cars. However, he said that any future Ferrari hybrid system "must focus on improving efficiency and not just be about performance." The introduction of hybrid technology on a future Enzo replacement would be consistent with Ferrari's philosophy of using these cars as test beds for nascent technology. The use of carbon-composite construction in Ferrari's hypercars is nothing new both the F50 and the Enzo employed a carbon monocoque. However, Ferrari will not follow McLaren's lead in introducing the technology on regular production models. "Today it does not make sense," Felisa said. "The weight benefits compared with an aluminum chassis [such as the 458's] are very small and the costs are huge. In the event of an accident, it is also very difficult to identify whether the chassis has been damaged." Inside Line says: Carbon chassis, V12 power and hybrid sounds like a recipe for a Bugatti Veyron-baiting hypercar."
Nice!!!!!! This article says it could be a TT V12. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1066960_ferrari-enzo-replacement-to-get-mid-engine-v-12-carbon-fiber-chassis-report I think we are looking at 800 hp plus. The 599s successor will have at least 700 horses.
I wonder how they're going to get close to their target of 1000-1100 kg with a big V12...Unless the engine is much smaller and employs turbos...
I want one. I'll ask my dealer. If he's tough on me I might consider trading im my 400, even tough I love that car.
I'm glad they are sticking with the V12 instead of a turbo V8. I just hope the design isnt being done by the same ones that designed the FF
When in Maranello in January, this could not be confirmed/denied/talked about..... Maybe it is "Offical" as of this momonet, but then, it wasn't anything that could materlize from that point......
While I like the FF a bit, I sure hope that the new Enzo is a design of it's own. It deserves to be as it deserves 12 cylinders.
The Enzo was a technological marvel, and an aesthetic Tour de Perfection. It'll take more than FXX horsepower for this thing to earn the respect of being a replacement. At least in my opinion. Even though they didn't include it in the final revision, the Manettino was designed for the Enzo; so many aspects of current Ferraris owe thanks to the Enzo. I anxiously await this new Ferrari, but I honestly wonder if it will replace the full experience that is the Enzo.
My money is on the prospect that, regardless of the number of cylinders, the new car will have some type of forced induction --- either turbo- (or) super-charging. And, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see some application of "KERS" technology tossed in as a gimmick. But, all I really care about is what will it look like?
I hope it'll be N/A. Most turbo V12's sound terrible, with the exception of maybe the EB110; but even that doesn't sound quite as nice. Turbo's sound nice on V8's. V12 should be atmospheric.
You must be really happy!! Indeed. Pure magic. This car will blow us all away! Exciting times up ahead.
