I have on Auction (eBay) a Key Blank for the Following Ferrari models: DINO BB 246 308 275 330 and 365. I believe the Ferrari Part Numbers are 95401021 and 995401021. The face of the Key Blank has an Etched pattern in the background with "NEIMAN" on it and the Back of the Key Blank has an etched pattern in the background with the word "GERMANY". The Key is made of Brass with Nickel finish. This is a Great Opportunity to Stock Up on Some Spare Keys that Will Pass a Contours Inspection! As with ALL my Auctions, You Will Not Be Disappointed with the Quality. AUCTION # is 8067297947.

Just so I'm clear on this.

This is a good REPRODUCTION key, not an original Neiman factory key, right?

I relisted the auction to clarify the fact that the key is a reproduction. The item number is 8067417881.

What is it made out of, perhaps coated brass?

The locksmith that the local Ferrari dealer recommends (please don't ask how I know...) would not use the blank Silca key that I got from www.keys4classics.com as it was made of non-brass (steel?) and he thought its harder metal would put too much wear on the pins and cylinder.

Original keys are steel, aren't they?

Don't think that's really much of an issue, from a wear perspective.

He probably just didn't want to dull his cutter on the extra hard key. :D

Just read the ad description and it states brass.

Thank you for reading my mind

The original keys are steel. The locksmiths don't like them, because they wear out the cutter wheels on their key cutting machines.
The locksmith that we use charges us double to cut a steel key.

I prefer the steel keys as they are much more durable, and will never break off in a lock

I researched this subject quite a bit before making a decision because I wanted the key to be as accurate as possible. After talking to two very large key manufacturers I decided to go with brass. Neither rep recommended steel and they said that literally no one uses steel based keys anymore because it wears down the key mechanisms. I also worried about the finish and we worked on it quite a bit. These are details that most people do not sweat over. Fortunately, the finish came out exceptionally well as it looks like steel. It is not a nickel finish like so many replacement blanks. So there you have it.

How about posting some for sale in FerrariAds.com?

Reasonably priced, and no ebay hassles for all your fellow Dinophiles here.

    Hmmm???

    thanks for thinking of us.

That's a good idea that I didn't think about before. I should do the same with the t-shirts as there is not much left. As for the keys, I just made a few and want to see how strong the demand is via eBay before I commit to a production run - which requires a large quantity and a big investment on my part.

Originals are steel, AFAIK, and I wouldn't think wear on the lock would be an issue....I've had them reburbished as well...totally repinned and springed.

    Ilco and Taylor also WORK........LOL!

Andrew (A.J.) - received the key and Dino key fob. They look great! I have not yet cut the key, but will let you know if there are any difficulties. Thanks for getting them to me so quickly.

Ask your locksmith, brass is preferred because wear is a serious issue.

This key came out of a Boxer last week. I have yet to figure out how he broke it but the locksmith did say that the tumblers were worn out. So I guess both of these issues can happen.

That key reminds me of what happened to me once with my car.I had a weak battery so I drove my car to the autoparts store with my brother.I left the ignition on and the car running with my brother in the car for fear that if I switched the engine off it would not start.I entered the store and had to go back to my car to check the battery terminal location in order to get the correct battery. So from standing outside of the car reaching in through the drivers window I tried to open the front bonnet with the bonnet release handle. It didn't open properly and with a few tries I ended up snapping the handle in my hand and in turn snapping the key whilst in the ignition barrel with the car still running the!Talk about bad luck.I got the car home and disconnected the battery in order to turn the car off. Then with a metal pick and some tweezers I was able to remove the snapped bit out of the ignition.Lucky I had a spare key that I was able to cut.Boy was i P1ssed off that day

That reminds me of my stupid experience. I have an early spyder with a wire handle for a hood release. It is located under the driver's side of the dash. One day, I was in a hurry to release the hood and from out side the car I tried grabbing the handle - blindly. I pulled and ended up with a bunch of wires instead of the handle. It took me a week end to fix it all up again. Now I always look.
