Hi, does anyone know where you could get hold of an oil cooler at a reasonable price?

Does not have to be original (I am fixing the original meanwhile)?
Did Alfa or Fiat used this type of oil cooler as well , and does anyone know their part numbers? I just need the radiator, not the the housing.

    eternally gratefull,

    ricky

If ya cant get one and you still want to drive ya car while the original oil cooler is being fixed. You can do what i did in my 328 when my cooler was being repaired. I had a coupling made that joined both ends of the oil cooler pipes so the oil still flowed through the engine. The you can drive your ferrari with out problems untill ya original one is back.

How does that cool the engine oil?

It does not cool the oil. I spoke to Shiltec ferrari about this and they said that would be ok so long as i did not thrash the car. Remember that not all cars have oil coolers, so an oil cooler is on the engine for when ya running at max and the engine is getting very hot. The warter cools the engine in normal use.

I've heard that not all but a fairly large % of the cooling (or temperature control) on a 308 does come from the oil...similar to an air (oil) cooled 911/beettle/etc..??

    Either way check out www.summitracing.com

They have a lot of universal coolers/radiators/etc that might work for you and could be an upgrade.

After looking at several options to change my broken oil cooler, I was left with just the OEM piece, because that was the only one (I could find) that would fit in the housing.
Bought the piece at maranello conc in the UK (GBP 156,00/€229,00/$293,00 ex VAT).
Seem that the original is not available any longer and got a replacement part of German make AKG. The cooloing surface is definitively smaller so for track use I would not recommend it. I will fit it this week and let you know what my experience is with this new cooler.
The cooler is suitable for all carburetted 308´s

    Cheers,

    Ricky

Pegasus Auto Racing has MOCAL oil coolers in the proper 10AN fitting and you can choose from various sizes. You may need to fab up a simple bracket for mounting, but lowering the cooling ability is not something i'd opt for in warmer climates (or racing).

I checked with pegasus. that would be the 19-row 10 AN. Not only the brackets need to be adjusted but also the housing, because the pegasus length is 11,38" (28,9 cm) and the original IPRA is 9,76" (24,8 cm).

    Steve,

I know we talked about this when you were here and we agreed that it seemed AN 10 was appropriate but I just installed a B&G Cooler (from JEGS) with built in fan and thermostat on a Track GT4 I am building and I used AN 12 for all lines after comparing the Factory Banjo Bolts for ID.
I had to machine a 1/2 inch spacer block (and taller studs) to lift the oil filter housing up so that I could get a 90 degree forged AN 12 fitting connected between the Head were the banjo bolt used goes into the oil filter.

I was concerned that AN 10 was to restricted.

By the way the Best MOCAL site is http://www.batinc.net/mocal.htm
They are block from the shop where I am building the GT4 Track Car
They also have every strange Metric to AN Fitting you could need.
