I bought a 2005 575M from Exotic Motor Cars in Boynton Bch. Have been waiting for a title for two months. Anybody know anything about this dealer? Any suggestions? What the law on providing a title in Florida? My second temp tag will run out next week. Is this dealer legit.
I don't think there is a limit on how many temp tags you can have here. When I bought a NEW Mazda several years ago I had four or five temp tags before I got the metal plate. Sorry to read about your troubles, there are lots of Fchatters in the area of the dealer you bought from so someone will probably post something more useful shortly. Good luck. BT
The best way to answer your question about the dealer being legit is to ask if you did a Carfax, and is the car everything you thought it would be? To reiterate a previous question, what is the reason you are being told about the title delay? Are they being helpful? Who is their title agent? Can you call them directly? Was the car on consignment? If so, possibly they had to pay off a prior loan, but then, they should have told you about that. Did they have the title to the car when they sold it to you? A new title and a metal tag should from the state of Florida should not take more than 4-6 weeks. I had to wait 10 weeks for personalized tags from an Audi dealer, but then there was a mix up and a month passed before they actually ordered the tag. As for the dealer, I have heard issues about them, but that will not help at this time.
Getting the Title usually only takes a week or two. Plates take a minimum of a month and I've known situations where it took several months. Johnnie T (All Out Exotics) is friendly with the guys at Exotic. If he can't help you I don't mind driving by and putting the muscle on them a little for you. Scottie
It can be tough transferring titles out of state. I had to get all kinds of BS from the title holder in Cali when I tried to title in florida. Then again it was a private sale.
Hey man, Give me a call. I know the owner very very well. I will try my best to help you out. Thats weird. Dennis is a great guy, although always very busy! Did you buy the Red Tan car?? If so i know the car...and possibly why you havent gotten the title.
My wife talked to Dennis this morning said he would call back in 2 hours, But as always no call. I think tomorrow I will have to get hold of the states attorney and see whats happening. I bought the red/black 2005 575M F1. Still on his web site also my 2004 Z06 blue with racing stripe (was the trade). Plus Nicole is gone now to thats who I used to talk to.
State Atty?? Hire an attorney and don't waste anymore time, 2 months and no title and he doesn't return your calls. The State atty is going to blow you off and tell you it's a civil matter. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.......
Some dealers will use titles as collateral with banks they lend money from. Be careful. Its sad that Nicole is gone, she held Exotic Motorcars together! Theres no excuse if you bought the Red/Black car.
I was told that that amount of money crossing state lines is big time fraud like Federal. Someone said it's like Phone,Mail and Internet fraud. Any opinions on this. Tomorrow definately for legal help.
Called Exoticmotor cars four times today (they have a new girl now) With no call back from anyone. I also filed a complaint with the Florida BBB and next day aired a complaint form to the Florida MVA. I also e-mailed these to Exotic. Will have lunch with my attorney noon tomorrow and will see what's next.
Wow, that's crazy. FL is shady, but that's off the edge. One reason I won't work with any small dealers, only authorized. Also, it seems better to buy out of state and transport in most of the time. Hope it all works out. They never gave you the signed over old title? I can help you if your title is delayed at the DMV. Another thing, always handle your own tags. Get the title signed over and do it yourself. If you have the title or had it at some point I have ways to help.
I am a licensed dealer in the State of Florida. First of all, vehicles in this State are not suppose to be sold without having a title in hand. This is a practice that most dealers do not follow. According to the Division of Motor Vehicles, dealers are allowed to submit (2) temp tags to a buyer. After that, they are allowed to give you one additional temp tag but with DMV's approval only!! Now, if you are out of state, you shouldn't be issued a temp tag to begin with, unless you drove the car on Florida highways. If you did, they should of collected a 6% Florida sales tax from you. Anyway, this is how the Florida law works. If you really want action, contact the Division of Motor Vehicles in Palm Beach County - they are the only agency that will be heat on this dealer. It appears that they have broken a few laws. This is what the DMV is for. They will direct you on what you should do and what your rights are. Keep in mind that you have recourse in the State of Florida against a $25,000 surety bond that is held by every licensed dealer. No dealer wants this lien put on them. Believe me, they will not avoid you. If your unhappy with the vehicle, this is your chance to say "here's your car back, I am no longer interested". It doesn't sound as if they are waiting for the financial instition to send them the title, because if they paid it off in time, they should recieve the title before 30 days. If they purchased from dealer auction, this is where the problem could be. They have no control of the title - they waiting on others to send it to them. I have armed you with a lot of information, don't waste money on attorney's, you can do this yourself. Sorry your experiencing this problem but it happens everyday over here. Let me know if you need any DMV phone #'s, happy to help - GOOD LUCK.
Talked to David today because Dennis is still not available. He guaranteed me a title by the first of the week. So far we have been in touch with the Florida DMV, the BBB, The Boynton Bch Police Dept. and the bank we wired the money to. Also the States Attorneys Office. And hired an Attorney in Boynton Bch. We should see some results by the first of next week. Appreciate all your comments.
Well they promised me a title next week. David said it was coming express from Mass. Will have to see. Also the Florida DMV is looking into it, talked to them Friday.they said this was way out of line. Oh well.
I give you an example as to what can happen on the other side as well. I sold Sindo's 308 to Steve in Jacksonville. both here on Fchat. The title was held at a bank where I paid off the loan amount and gave instructions to mail the title to us. They marked the loan paid within 3 days and supposedly sent the info to DMV to issue a new title. Apparently they deal in electronic titles only, so DMV was to issue a new title. Somewhere in the line they never did. After 30 days I called and asked for my title. Bank said they don't have it, it was sent to DMV. DMV could not find it because the VIN was issued to two different cars. Was a typo by DMV as we found out but never the less it took them another 30 days till the title was sent to Sindo of all people. The whole story took 60 days to sort out. Not that this is typical but **** can happen. BocaExotics is right though. Contact DMV. If for nothing else but that they shield your phone calls. If there is a problem explain it to the customer. I did and Steve was happy to wait. I find it unacceptable that people are rude in this business. It looks like we hear that over and over. Best is when you have those that recommend a rude dealer and even admit that they are rude but still buy a over priced $200,000 car and then recommend them to others. <shaking my head>
I am on my third temp tag, even though Dennis Kennedy of Exotic Motor cars. told my wife on May 24. that they could not issue a third temp tag. I gave a friend of mine from Maryland Power of Attorney as she was heading to Florida on vacation and was only to happy to stop by Exotic on June 2nd and she was told that there Involvement was to get money and sell the car. The title was the responsibility of the floor planner, which they would not release the name of. All we know is the title is coming from Mass. Florida DMV shows no lien on the title, but money had to be sent to the floor planner to release the title, why? The thing that is most upsetting is everyone at exotic has an attitude when you phone and inquire about the title, they indicate they have to look into the matter and will return our call, but never do. My wife talked to our case worker at the DMV, who said that this was unacceptable and would contact them. That was Fri. June 9. Thanks For Your Interest
Floor planner? That sounds made up. Like Art Corvaley. Although I smell seafood, my senses tell me this will have a happy ending. BT
so You have the car, he has your $ And the title ? If John cant help you out I would definately be calling a lawyer to put a fire under his toes Sounds very wierd
