Just thought I'd ask you guys. My car is there right now. Dropped it off May 13 for major service, clutch replacement, and other minor things. I was told it may take approx 2-3 weeks for the car to be ready.

I don't have the car yet at this writing and was told it maybe another week or so or maybe not until July 12. Was told initially a mechanic's relative died,
then a mechanic is on vacation, and last time, an emergency repair has to be done on somebody's 355.

Been really patient and trying to understand. I have not complained or thrown a fit. But can you guys tell me if this is usually how long it takes? Or is it just a busy time of the year? Sometimes though, I can't help but think that I am not even at the bottom of their priority list. I really would appreciate your comment(s). If this is to be expected (or "normal"), then, I'm more than willing to wait. No hard feelings. Am just getting restless- the weather has been great and I have no car :). Am sure the guys are good at RTGT.

    Thank you.

The guys at RTGT are great, I would believe that this would be a quite busy time for them. If they are a man down in the shop this could slow things down for sure. If it get's too bad you may want to give Dick at ATD a call and see what his schedule is like. And yes this is great driving weather for sure, I feel your pain!

    Cheers!

Dick and his wife at ATD are great. Very straight up and honest. They are very good with older Fcars. F360 and up will probally be best at RTGT.

Guys, thank you. Just FYI, I got a call from my service advisor today. In a nutshell, he explained what's going on and said my car is being worked on. Hopefully I'd get it back before the middle of the month. I really appreciate that.

Thanks to all who read this thread. Things are good.

I am rather partial to going to RTGT.

They are in fact the factory dealer and stand behind their work 200%. This is their absolute busiest time of the year. Weather you own an Enzo or a 308 they get to your car in the order it comes in. I am sure they are working as fast as they can. They are a bunch of great guys in that shop.
I do understand your frustration with the weather being as nice as it is though.

It's normal. The guys at RTGT won't let you down. It may take awhile but I can attest to the fact that they do stand by their work. ATD is worth checking into. I've gotten great service from them and much cheaper than the dealer.

In fact, the Oldest Ferrari dealership in the USA.

In 1986 I bumped into Ron and Marcy at the Hotel Fini in Modena - just one of the regular dealer visits he makes to the factory every year.

If you think RTGT is slow, wait till you try ATD!

I like ATD (and use them for my 365 and 512), but they are really slow. ATD is just a one man operation, so you can imagine the sort of delays that can happen. Even for minor stuff, my car is usually at ATD for a month or so.

RTGT is by far the fastest option for Ferrari service around. I think what you are seeing is just the nature of Ferrari ownership-- it's different from owning a Lexus or Porsche. There are only a few people who can work on it, parts take forever, etc.

I have to hand it to Tonkin - I've had a problem with my car ever since it had it had a the 30K at Tonkin at the 12,000 mile point. FoS and Ferrari of North America concluded along with Tonkin that the problem could have been a Cam timing problem. Carlo thought it could have been valve guides. Tonkin wore the big hat and gave me a great offer to redo the 30K at no charge if it was the cam timing and if it was valve guides they gave me a great deal so I would come away from the experience glad I owned a Ferrari and worked with Tonkin. They have promised to make my car right and I believe they will. They know I'll probably be driving Ferraris for a long time and want to maintain a good relationship.

The machine shop found I had infact worn valve guides and also replaced two exhaust valves. I know my car and Steve J's car have backed up their shop over the last month or so with difficult issues that in my case some of the best couldn't really diagnose without taking it apart.

I appologize for what my car may have done to the schedule of your car.

Be patient I think you're dealing with a class act.

    Good write up Dave.
Kelly, Chris and gang will always correct any problem if they or their customer feel they missed something. All my service has always been spot on and I have never had to return for a correction.
I even like to drop my car off and say, " I will be back tomorrow to pick her up" LOL! Amazingly, more than half the time it is not only ready next day but detailed for no charge!

I appreciate all the (reassuring) posts. Again, things are good. Certainly, no
bridges were burned. I hope you guys didn't think my was post "negative."
As I said, am sure the RTGT guys are good.

    Dave, I accept your apology ;) ;)!

Marty, Mike, Don, and the rest...hope to see you soon in PDX.

    Best,
    Ron

Car ran great on the Olympic Drive - Check Engine light came on 1/2 way on the return ride yesterday. This was the root cause that sent the car to the shop in the first place. We clearly do not have a mechanical issue so it must be the Computer or the wiring. The emissions test taken the day before the trip showed 9 and 11 PPM out of a 220 PPM limit. The HC showed .01% out of a 1.2% limit. The CATs and the engine are not an issue. These are expensive to own cars, mine seems to be testing all of the dealers and my wallet.

Finally got it last week! Fresh major, clutch, and aircon. The car (and engine)was even detailed. I think they did a good job. I am very pleased. Now, when is the track event?

Thanks to all who read this thread. See ya!

Took my car to FoS, they found two things, the check engine light was coming on because my OEM CATs were shot. My car due to the valve guides and fuel injectors ruined the OEM CATs and a brand new set of Hyperflows. while Tonkin did a great job for an amazing price they should have been able to tell the CATs were shot, but the fact that the valve guide fix kept the engine light out while in their custody it fooled them into not checking out the CATs. I received a new set of Hyperflows (thank you to Hyperflow for helping out there) and installed them. FoS did the post CATs installation check and discovered that the fuel injectors were plugged which was why I was getting a high speed miss and putting my new Hyperflow CATs at risk. My injectors with 25K on them were blocked 15% with bad spray patterns.

Lesson learned: don't do a 30K on a pre '99 F355 without doing the valve guides, having the injectors removed and cleaned and checking the CATs by doing an upstream and downstream voltage sweep of the O2 sensors to make sure the downstream voltages are not ocilating across the rich lean curve which is what turns on your Check engine light.

Bottom line both Tonkin and FoS have given me great service support. With 20/20 hindsight I would have gone about what I've done completely differently.
