Switched from GEICO to State Farm when it came to the Gallardo and couldn't be happier. Had been a longstanding GEICO customer, but ultimately realized GEICO was just not geared towards insuring high-end exotics.

Statefarm OTOH has been a real pleasure to deal with, and I would highly recommend them to other exotic owners looking for quality service and pricing. Annual insurance charges on the G have been VERY reasonable.

My view is that satisfaction with an insurance company is highly correlated to the quality of the insurance agent you deal with. I'm working with a particularly good agent, and would highly recommend her in the event you are looking for auto insurance - probably worth a call even if you're not to see if you can save yourself some money.

PM me if you are, and I will provide her details.

Statefarm also provides other types of insurance coverage, and she will be able to direct to you right if you're looking for home / renters / umbrella / etc.

Here are the high-end cars "officially" covered by Statefarm. My sense is that if you call them up, they will probably work with you on a lot more.

Check out Farmers Insurance if they write in your state. I pay $238.00 / 6 months for full coverage. You also have personel agent. The policy works the same as the "collector insurance" co. without all the rules they require.

After checking Allstate, GEICO, Progressive, Haggerty's and a bunch of others, State Farm was the only company that would insure my 308 for anything reasonable (and some of those others wouldn't insure it at all!)

Every one of these other companies gave me some stupid run around -- "you don't have a second car", or "You haven't had a policy with us before", or "We don't do Ferrari", or "You haven't had a car registered in the last 3 years" (I live in Manhattan!!! Who has a car here, let alone two?!!?)

State Farm was the only company that made it simple: Me: "Hi, I'd like to insure my Ferrari 308. I don't have another car, haven't had a policy with you before, and don't have prior registration in the area." State Farm agent: "Ok, no problem."

    DONE.

i run a bodyshop and ill tel you from my experience:
geico is absolutely the worst company out there when it comes to repairs. their inside reps are good but regarding returning a car to pre-accident condition they do not understand

state farm is excellent, however keep on ey on the news. the company is undergoing major changes which could effect your policy or repairs

chubb and aig are geared for highline clientelle and have specialty claims handlers for that line.

progressive and mercury are even worse than geico so beware

in new jersey the best company (dont know about highline cars) is new jersey manufacturers hands down.

just thought i would throw this out there for anyone interested......

Most of my insurance is with Chubb, which partners with Grundy on collector cars. Grundy wouldn't take the Ferrari bc they require at least 2 cars in the "collection."

State Farm has all my other cars so I called them. Surprise! Very happy to cover the car, competitive rate w/no milage or usage restrictions. No agreed value, but I'm not as concerned as I would be if I had a true collectible rather than a late-model production car.

Sorry for the semi-hijack, but I've got a quick question. Back when I signed up for my policy, State Farm told me my premium would drop on my 30th birthday (which was this week). Anyone know if this would be automatic or whether I have to call and remind them? I don't think i get my statement for a while.

Geico is terrible. Thier quote was way higher than anyone else i got. If you're any kind of risk they try to rape you. Plus from a story that i read in either Car and Driver or Road and Track, it was Geico that financed the research on the laser radar guns. I though that was pretty messed up, I will never use them.................

Messed up, yes. But not surprising. First of all, GEICO is/was a government company. Second, any insurance company would want better lasar/radar guns and *wants* people to get tagged more, so they can jack up your premiums. Insurance companies are not our friends...

They have been great with my daily drivers, especially 2 claims (1 break-in, 1 hit & run) on my all aluminum Audi S8, however they wanted over $1,000 for my 86 Mondial Cab, so that one is with Hagerty ($524 full coverage collector insurance).

I have been using State Farm for the past 16 years and they have been an absolute pleasure to deal with. Unfortunately, I had to use them on several occasions:

    1) Car stereo and some personal items stolen out of car when I was in college - "Just send us a list of what you had in the car - no receipts necessary" - they sent me a check for the full dollar amount of everything at retail value. Was a little surprised that this was all done on the honor system.

    2) Wife took the car on a submarine adventure on a flooded road. Lesson learned - engines don't like breathing in water. State Farm covers new engine and some body work ($22k total) and a rental car for 2 months while car is being repaired.

    3) Got rearended by a driver while he was reaching for his phone and didn't notice that traffic had stopped in front of him. I happen to be the car in front of him. A 4 car pileup occurs as he didn't hit his brakes at all and 3 cars behind him rammed into him as well. State Farm covers rear damage to my car - goes after other driver's insurance company after and recovers my deductible from them.

    4) Two weeks ago I went to Vegas. Rented a Viper SRT-10. Exotic rental company required a specific proof of insurance form that my agent says State Farm HQ will not allow to be provided. Agent liases with HQ and Exotic rental place for 2 days... I find myself driving the Viper up to Hoover Dam with a smile on my face.

Although I have been quoted cheaper rates by other insurance co.'s, I will not take the chance of saving a few bucks and sacrifice the level of service I have received from State Farm. I highly recommend them...
