There are two "euro" 308GT4s for sale right now in California, but they have a few details that are different. This one (http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/193358451.html and http://www.hmsvictory.org/~wgerola/gallery/My-Ferrari) and this one ( ebay item 230018123659 is also at http://www.sbcarco.com/search.asp). Is this the difference between a series 1 vs a series 2 euro? Or is the ebay car a fake euro? I don't know the running changes, but it seems like the ebay car is a US car with euro bumpers. Or are those just series 1 bumpers?

Differences that I see: Side marker lights, horsey on the front grille, horsey placement on the rear, yellow rear turn signals, clear front turn signals, built in driving lights, missing muffler valence (this just might be missing, that's common), vents above the rear window. I can't tell which way the glove box opens on the ebay car, but I know it changed at some point in GT4 production. Is this a series 1 vs. series 2 change? Also the fuseblocks moved at some point.

(I did search for a thread on this without luck, but I'm sure this has been hashed out before.)

Ebay car looks to be a US car modified with European bumpers. What gives it away as a US car are the rectangle side markers on the front and rear quarters.

Too bad that other car is burgundy on tan (ugh)...or my ears would perk up a bit more.

I spoke to the dealer about the ebay car.

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117381

It is a US car they have original records stating so. There seem to have a lot of little changes to the car, such as euro bumpers.

The other car looks very nice...$35k is a lot, but I really like the color and the little euro details. I would really like to to find something like that in the mid $20k range...I only drive 8 miles to work thru canyon road, it'd be fun to be my commuter.

I saw the eBay car yesterday too. It's a US motor, as it has dual distributors. But those are definatley Euro bumpers. So it's not original.

There's a thread on here somewhere that shows what it takes to convert it to Euro bumpers. I think (IIRC) it was done by someone in Australia.

If you look in the thread on my car, there are some pictures of what is required to make the change on page 3 of that thread.

Haven't looked at the other two cars yet.

There are quite a few (a dozen or so) GT4's out there in the low to mid $20k range. However, you are not going to find a really nice original one for that price. I've looked at quite a few this year priced from $19k to $25k and they all needed at least $4K+ worth of work. Lots of guys think they have really nice original cars; very few actually do.

Where do you look to find the available GT4 for sale? I scan eBay once in a while, autotrader.com, dupont, and a few other random search results. I just don't see that many for sale...usually 1-3 and most with strange story and not mechanically sound. And most ones that look good in the ad and while talking with the owner/dealer, but once inspected usually proof less than ideal. They all seem to need minimum $3-5k once you buy it and I don't really feel like spending more than $30k. I am not looking for a show car, but I do want a car that runs well, and the interior in pretty good shape. I have driven a few old Ferraris like SWB, Lusso, Series 1 Cab and so on...and really liked the 275 GTB particularly...but I am just not ready deal with expensive classic cars...and that was when they were only about $180k just a few years ago. I've always liked the GT4. I've driven them, they are fun to drive, unusual quirky looks...so I figured if I can spend $30k and end up with a solid GT4 that I can drive a few days a week to work, hear the lovely Ferrari sound...I'd be pretty stoked.

I really like the euro one in this thread, but just a bit too pricey I think. I like the color, I like the euro differences...if it checks out well mechanically and is in the mid $20k range I'd be all over it.

What do you guys think this euro car should be priced at?

if the engine checks out and has a jack and tool kit and manual and pouch Id say about 25-30k the interior looks good, the wiper baldes are wrong but at least it has the right oil filter, unlike the one with the wix.

I think $30k-$35k is high money for the right GT4, but I don't believe it's out of the question for appropriate examples to start fetching that kind of money. In the 308 GTS/GTB family, the most sought-after model is a dry sump, fiberglass, Euro GTB (I guess all the dry sump cars were GTBs, but you know what I mean).

The comparable GT4, in terms of "gotta have it" factor, is going to be an early Euro car - hotter cams, the more desireable bumpers, etc. In California, the only cars that are 1975 and earlier are SMOG-exempt, and this car falls under that umbrella.

So...you've got a SMOG-exempt, early, Euro GT4 already in CA (not too many people try to bring Euros in from other states - too risky) that looks to be in very good condition - I see no reason why it won't go in the 30-35k range to the right buyer. In fact, if I didn't already have my GT4 and were in the market for one, I'd stretch if I had to to get that car in my garage...

There aren't any really nice ones for sale in the US under $30k. Trust me, I've looked. There are a bunch of "wannabe's" but they need $4k worth of work.

FYI, series 1 US model GT4's have the same hotter cams.

Strange, mine is an early 1975 US model which doesn't have the Euro cams but does have other "Euro" parts on it (like gas tanks and air box), I wonder at what point they changed them over? My serial # is 10636.

I looked up your serial #.
Your car was made right in the middle of the transition from series 1 to series 2. The change began on some cars as early as April 1975. Yet I've seen a May 1975 car that was built 100% series 1. The change was complete in June of 1975.
My 400i was the same way. It had some early style parts mixed with late style parts.
