This may be my first post, and it certainly is my first image I've posted here.

Taken with a Nikon D200 w/ 70-200 f/2.8, through a convenient hole in the fence at turn 6.

This caught my eye. This Lotus was a few blocks from the Brickyard.

"Enzo Who?" It proves there is Ferrari magic. Here's a guy that has a Lotus, but he chooses to remind everyone about Ferrari every time they look at his car.

This is a 100% 800 pixel-wide crop from the original image shown at the top of this post. Without wheels, it looks like he's flying.

    Nice shots!

The ENZO WHO is a guy I've met before, really involved in the Lotus Corps, the chicagoland Lotus club. Great group of guys, very wrench handy (I used to keep my brothers Esprit S1, that kept running only because of these guys!).
He used to have a red early 90s Esprit.

Thanks. I do professional photography, but usually commercial product stuff. (I won't shoot weddings.) Shooting cars and racing is for mainly just for fun and only marginally related to some work I do for a couple of clients. I spend about 5% of my working hours doing photography. The rest of the time I spend managing my business, or doing graphic design, which is the artsy-fartsy way of saying I create logos, sales materials, maps, magazine ads, trade show booth graphics, and soon, websites.

I shot 1012 images at Indy (race day only), and it has taken quite a while to paw through all the images. I'm not sure I've evem looked at them all (closely) yet.

Too many images, so little time.

    This forum is great!

Great pics! Are you happy with the 2X TC? I have read great reviews of the 1.4 and some decent reviews of the 1.7X.

Hampshire is 15 miles west of Elgin or Dundee, on the way to Rockford via I-90, at Rte 20.

I was in Chicago this morning. My daughter had a bunch of appointments at Children's Memorial Hospital, which is at Clark and Fullerton. (I appreciate the FCA Italian Village Brunch - which raised funds for the hospital my daughter visits too frequently.)

    I like it.

I have a Nikon AF-I Teleconverter TC-20E 2X. I use it with a AF-G ED VR AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR lens. It is sharp, allows autofocus with no discernable lag (to me) in focus speed, and VR (Vibration Reduction) works fine with it. Naturally, the biggest negative is the loss of two stops, which makes the lens' maximum aperture f/5.6. It makes the lens focal length equal to 140-400mm, which on a Nikon or Fuji DSLR is equivalent to 210-600mm, which isn't too shaby.

I think my Indy USGP shots made with the 70-200 + 2XTC suffered not from lens characteristics, but mostly from the amount of air I was shooting through. It was hot and humid, and the distance from the top of the stands to the track was several hundred feet. Through the lens, you could see the air shimmering, especially behind the race cars.

When I moved down to ground level, I was close enough to shoot without the TC. At f/2.8, I was able to shoot at such high shutter speeds, the cars' motion was stopped, and they looked parked. I lowered the effective ISO speed, and stopped the lens down to about f/8 or f/11 in order to get slower shutter speeds to show blur. I used a monopod and panned panned panned. When the camera was on the monopod, I had the VR turned off.
