Was held at mate's DataDot premises.. he's on waiting list to get his mid-year 2007. I went along to take a look. Been a lot of work to get them through ADR but they now appear to be on their way.. Top spec is GM Ecotec supercharged 300hp for about $90K but which engine options to be offered as ADR yet to be finalised but you get the idea.. (245 Hp version 0-100 claim is 2.82 sec). An interesting vehicle for sure.. 500 kg so should be kind on brakes and tires to boot.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can't be sure of numbers.. about 20-30 there last night and was for customers with deposits so cutting down to driver/owners my guess maybe couple of dozen 1st up? From there on and for each following year it's anyone's guess..
must be great on a cold and wet winter's day...or on a hot summer's day, for that matter! so they pass crash testing and all that sort of stuff?
When you see one on the road Speedcore, you'll be impressed by the vacuum cleaner exhaust note from the Holden Astra engine. Tres exotique...not. Yet another pommy kit car that will be gone from the market within 2 years, leaving the handful of local owners sitting on a ton of depreciation. LOL.
been concerned about that... i think it's Vectra was hoping they'd be able to stuff in a SC'd Alfa or something reckon that's what'll happen? so far the euro market is holding it's value pretty well, which i guess has a lot to do with supply/demand. i'm in two minds about it at the moment.... at my position on the waiting list i won't get mine till mid-08 or so anyway, by which time there will probably be a second-hand market going.
that's IF people don't pull out...if they do, and people generally do with these sorts of things, you'll be getting your a hell of a lot sooner than you thought!
no i'm assuming that's WITH people pulling out. i'm 125th on the list, i can't imagine any deliveries happening before this time next year, and there will probly only be 20-30 at most in the first year.
they are talking about 4 cars/month to be allocated to Australia, but that's after ADR compliance and that is probably not until mid next year. alexm, if your mate is getting his mid next year then he must be one of the very first people on the waiting list. i can understand asking the first 20 or 30 or the 1st years allocation to put a deposit, but asking well over 100 - Ash is #125 and that was a long time ago - is a bit rich. #100 on the list is looking at a mid 2009 delivery if everything goes well.
i went on the list about 6 months ago i guess. i seriously doubt they would have had 1/10th the interest if it weren't for jeremy clarkson. even i'm suckered in by that video.
Jay Leno also gave high praise in his car collector column.. my mate just sent article scan through.. can post here if you wanted to read. Jay also noted he liked the Atom for all the same reasons other notable enthusiast Rowan Atkinson didn't.. so just goes to show very much personal taste rules to decide between equally capable cars as usual..
whats the difference between one of these and say a cobra, or chatterham 7 if u use it for track work, will it make any difference. Plus buying an existing cobra or C7 the tear up has already occurred.
dunno, i've never bought a car newer than 1984 and to buy a *new* car is scary...especially as i wouldn't get it for a couple years by which time there'll be a second-hand market. each time i watch vids and perve at it the enthusiasm is renewed somewhat, but i might concentrate on a classic wedge in the mean time. showed the gf the options list the other day and the sums came to ~$80k for the base model, she was like "ok so what's it look like?", i showed her and she was like "what the hell is that??! why do you want to spend that much money on a go-kart? i thought it was supposed to look like that!" [points to an Elise]
i'm thinking much the same. $80k is an expensive go-kart. actually $80k is nearly a 308. i think i'd rather save and see what happens in a couple of years time. anyone want position #100 in the waiting list? i'm sure it'll get higher now that their asking for $$$.
And Vectra is a German remember As others suggested, the Clarkson video shows just how fast this thing is and EVO rate it highly, so its good enough for me. $100k for a fully spec'd one.... thats another thing.
similar, but on a whole different order of magnitude... i mean, over a second quicker to 100kph from standing start, that's as quick as the best crotch-rockets, all while sitting down. i see it as the absolute rawest form of car, as close to a pure driving experience as possible, that's why i love the whole ethos of it and will need one at some point. i understand the caterham/lotus7 things are likely fairly similar in their delivery, but i look at them and can't get rid of the image of 65yo men with golf caps pottering along the esplanade on a sunday.
I'm a big fan - just on the basis of the JC review and a couple of other tests. I liked the car the instant I saw a pic. It is an insane concept that most people will dislike or not understand - immediately increasing its appeal to me. But first I need a new house to keep it (and the rest of the dream garage). I saw one today (house that is) I liked in the Fin Rev. It has pool, court etc etc - and an eight car basement garage. Also has a lift and a bar with beer on tap. Former CEO of Fosters Ted Kunkel used to own it. Trouble is, I'd need to move to Melbourne....;(
house??? that thing just needs a space under the underwear drawer. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
