Just got this months SportsCar magazine from SCCA and they name the top 3 people in the country for the national champion in each class for the upcoming Runoffs. Rob is among the three favorites in the Touring 3 class in his Mazda RX8. I have been on the track with Rob back when the Spec Miatas ran with RX-7s and even still have a little of his paint on my Spec Miata. He is definately fast and I am sure he will do well in Topeca in October.

The Runoffs were here for 10 years and I never missed a day. Then they were stolen away. Good luck R. Lay.

I hear Michael Schumacher is moving to T3 next year. He told Bob Varsha on Speed that he'd beaten all the greats in European racing and now has his eye on Rob Lay.

Thanks. I will put forth a good effort. Even in this amateur racing my biggest challenge is the factory cars. Mazda will have 3 RX8's out there with some hired guns and GM will have a couple cars. So they will definitely have the edge mechanically, I will have to drive perfect lap after lap and their drivers will have to make some mistakes for me to overcome their "engineering". Race will be shown on Speed Channel December or so.

Do the Runoffs allow you to race with the 288GTO body kit?

Looks like I'll get a little extra TV time for all my sponsors! ...which is none. :D Amateur racing at its best. Let me know if any last minute sponsors for guaranteed TV time. :)

    Driver: Lay, Rob CLASS: T3

Congratulations, you have been singled-out as someone to watch in this year’s SCCA National Championship Runoffs. As in year’s past, SPEED Channel will record brief opening segments for each class race with the top drivers and cars on Wednesday, October 11.

Please help us promote you and the Runoffs by showing up with your car, in your driver’s suit, to the grassy area on the North side of the North paddock next to the big white tent (by turn 11) 10-15 minutes prior to the time listed above (the shoot time).

Remember to wear your driver’s suit and have your car looking good!

I cannot think of a better way to get embarrassed and absolutely CRUSHED than to enter a 308/328 in SCCA GT2.....

The Porsche that won the SARRC GT-2 championship at Roebling this year was an absolute beast. 1950lb, 350hp, 14" wide slicks in rear under WIDE RSR Bodywork..... For what you would have to spend to get a 308/328 competitive you may as well run an ALMS Team!

    GOOD LUCK ROB!!!

    More good news...

This is a non-SCCA championship based on 2006 National Races weighted to how many compeitors you have. I'll take 2nd my first year, especially against a World Challenge driver! :)

    Sunday is practice.

Monday through Thursday I have one qualifying session a day. They'll take best time from all days.

Friday 5:35 pm is the race.

Saturday and Sunday possible complete breakdown of car in tech. :)

Just had 3 sessions of practice yesterday. Things aren't looking great so far. First two sessions had water temps up to 235 and fuel starvation above 7k. Fixed the fuel starvation with new fuel pump, but still fighting overheating. First qualifying is 3:30 today and we'll flush out the water system beforehand. Luckily a cool front is moving through this week and that will help.

So I spent most of yesterday dealing with those problems instead of concentrating on setup, so I'm behind right now, but there are 4 qualifying sessions this week to improve.
