Ok, I've seen several of these type of posts recently. I too was taken in a few times in the "emotion" to buy an FCar (luckily haven't gotten any "hits" on my credit rating and no $$$ lost).

IF SOMEONE EVER ASKS FOR MONEY VIA EBAY'S ESCROW SERIVCE
    or
IF SOMEONE EVER ASKS FOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS WITHOUT WANTING TO TELL YOU THIERS
    or
IF THE AUCTION IS LIMITED TO PRE-APPROVED BIDDERS

its a scam!!!!! repeat, its a SCAM!!!!!! repeat ITS A SCAM!!!!!!

    1) Ebay does not offer an escrow service, 2) "real" sellers are excited about thier cars and would love to talk, 3) Pre-approved bidding allows the scammer to offer "oh, give me a deposit and its your's" to multiple people.

Cars that I have seen this done to in the past on ebay:
330GTC (found orig by researching by google)
308GT4 (unique yellow one, saw it post originally in GA twice at $30K, then went up for way less more than 5 months later)
250 GT California (yellow, kit car listed twice at $40K, then went up for way less 6 months later).

The M.O. appears to be to get FCar pictures from previous ads then repost or get pictures from online / classifieds and relist.

I assume those people who HAVE been taken are too embarrased to come forward.

Use common sense folks, no one is going to sell a $100K car for $20K except "Silver Star Recycling" or other salvage dealers (even then, they ask way to much for a salvage car IMHO).

PS No, I don't have an FCar (yet), but I do have some common sense and even I got "excited" about finding such a deal when I KNEW it wasnt true. Lucky I didn't lose any $$$.

They are total scams! When I was looking for my F-Car, I saw one at a reputable dealership online, which had about 10 photos of the vehicle. Within a week later, I seen the same picture of the vehicle posted on EBAY and Craigslist from a private seller.

I immediately contacted the dealership to advise them that someone had downloaded a copy of their photo and trying to sell it as theirs, and I also contacted EBAY and Craigslist to notify them.

I even went as far as emailing the fake seller asking him the history of the vehicle. He replied that he has been quite busy lately and will email me that information later. My response to him was telling him that I know he is a fake and that I reported him to all of the people above. He never replied back.

Good luck in finding your car!

Great Job exposing the crooks out there! Keep it up.

I too have been hit with the phishers and spoofers. I have been receiving "second chance" bid notices from people outside of ebay who are offering deals but want a $ deposit. I email the real seller from the ebay page and confirm that the car is in fact sold and then inform them and ebay security that these phishers are out there. Keep reporting them to the ebay security dept by forwarding the fake emails to: [email protected] They do look into them and report them to the Federal authorities. Ebay security works well with the Feds.

Besides we dont know if that ill gotten money is buying someone's dope habit or bullets to kill our servicemen abroad.

    Stay vigilant!
