My very first post!! No more lurking!! Any way I will be doing a clutch job on my 1982 Ferrari 308 in the next couple of weeks and have a question concerning the transmission drain allen bolt. Could you tell me what size it is? Mine is different from my engine (probably should be). Where did you get your redline oil?
I have rebuilt a 1980 308 engine in the past (took 9 months) and this is my second Ferrari. My first one was perfect, beautiful!! The one I have now is a daily driver and I drive it 200+ smiles a week. I have learned a lot on my own (painfully at times) but recently found this sight and absolutly love it. I wish I would have found it years ago!!! I have become farmiliar with this car and do ALL maint. myself. I'm not scared of anything!!! I have the same love for these car that alot of you have and its good to have freind that can and will help each other when needed. Sorry for going on and thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Last time I changed the oil in my transmission I just shimmed a smaller wrench but, this nut is so tight and I don't want to damage it.

I think the stock drive feature for the 308-2V gearbox drain plug of your era is a 10mm female hex, but after so many years sometimes they get replaced with something else (if there was a prior problem). The gearbox drain plug should also have a magnet assembly on the internal side to trap loose (ferrous) wear particles.

I usually just buy my oils from the on-line suppliers like Scott (Autobarn, Pegasus, etc.) -- my sales tax here is so high that I usually come out ahead even with the shipping charge (although I'm buying somewhat larger quantities).

Welcome -- like the enthusiasm of your post -- very Bart-like (and I need that once in a while ;))

    200 smiles a week? That's about 70 smiles a day. A happy car for a happy driver ;-)
