Does anyone happen to know at what catalyst temperature the "Slow Down" light comes on? I am getting this indication (intermitantly) on one bank of cylinders (456 GT) and want to determine, by measuring the thermocouple output, if it is truly overheating or if there is a fault in the ECU.

    Thanks!

I don't know the settings but mine has the same intermittent problem.

Mine occurs after being washed and at low speeds so it is definitely faulty. It clears after a good run to dry the engine/ inner wing area.

I have been told this is very common and nothing to worry about but you can get spare ECU's relatively cheaply from Eurospares.co.uk.

I can't tell which bank it is coming from but Ferrari carried out a diagnostic and it was the drivers side one on mine (RHD car) I believe 348's indicated which bank was affected.

    Hi,
The left bank Slow Down comes on right?
Mine does the same.. I dont even have cats on..
Dealer tells me.. it just comes on .. dont worry if it goes away after a while.. but it stays on all the time.. It may shut the ECU's down.. That never happened to me .. (7000km in 1 week in Gumball 3000)
    I ignore it..
I dont think it has anything to do with the ECUs cause I have performance chips on it.. stil does it.. I believe its the thermocouple.. You may wanna get it insulated if you dont want to spend the money for new thermocouple.. But dont forget its a safety against ruining the Cats if you have them on..

An update on mine. I did some research and found that catalytic converters can safely operatae well north of 750 degrees C. I have a DVM with a thermocouple input so measured both at room temp. and both measured OK. I then waited to get the Slow Down light while driving, pulled over, and measured them again. This time both were around 550 deg. C. So, I know my thermocouples are good, it would likely be the thermocouple module. I swapped the modules right to left and the problem has gone away! I don't know why the Slow Down light for the other bank did not illuminate after the swap, but now everything is good.

The 348s and 355s have problems with the cat ecu's. The ecu's are know to go bad. The problem is that the seal on the back breaks and lets moisture inside the ecu, which wreaks havoc with the electronics inside the box. You can put some silicone sealer on the ecu's to help keep moisture out.

having difficulty locating the module you mention from on-line 456 books. Can you post a drawing of where these are and comment on your swap technique?

Now sure what seal you refer: is it the screw holes or about the rubber coupling...have a Mondial T [family 348] and might like to inspect them. BTW, can you point to where these are located?

It is the green seal that has separated from the black housing. Right where the two mate together. You can see a little crack in between them, or a small space. Right next to the screw hole.

got it. Just a bead of silicone and you believe that would solve the problem?

seems to be a tough fix from just the outside.

Help.........solve the problem. It really depends on how bad the electronics are messed up. Me I just got rid of the stupid things all together. Oooooooooooo scary spooky.
