OK, I was driving down my alley, and this neighbor of mine, who did have a Lambo Contach replica, had a new Lambo of some sort in his garage. I went up to look at it, and he said he had bought it in Washington and had it shipped to Texas. He said it was a 2001. I didn't dare ask if it was a replica, but a few things made me wonder: - The paint job was poor. Lots of orange peel and not much shine. But he told me that the car used to actually be pink, and is now champagne color. - The rear deck lid didn't fit flush - one side was raised higher than the other. - He had a rear wing that wasn't mounted, and said it came with the car and he was thinking about mounting it. - I noticed on the passenger side, when you open up the door, there was what looked like Lambo factory stickers of some sort either below or above the jam (part of the car body - not the door). Yet as I have looked at other Lambos on ebay for comparison, I see none of that. - The stick shift was short, and it had what looked like a red leather boot. - The windshield had Lambo insignia (black) which I assume is correct. - The rear black grill you could see the screws that mounted it in, and actually a few of the screws were missing. - On the plastic plates covering the tail light lenses, again you could see screw holes. - The top is a targa type top (painted to match the car) that comes off of the car making it a "convertible" of sorts. I am in no way familiar with Lambos, but the workmanship seemed very sloppy. Does this sound like a replica or the real deal?
A Countach doesn't have a shift boot (gated shifter). The chassis tubing extends into the roof (above the doors). There weren't any "Targa" or "T-Tops" built. The body is aluminum (although many inner sufaces are fiberglass). 2001 is about 12 years after the last Countach was built. The windshield on a replica is typically flat a genuine Countach has a slight curve. Looks like you've got a "Fakey-Do" there. The crowning glory will be that "Iron Duke" under the hood where that sweet 12 banger is supposed to be.
There were no convertible Lambos built in 2001. Last ones went out in '99. But with just a description its hard to tell (except as the above post states, the shifter should be a gated shifter.. there is no shift boot, that would make it a replica)
Its a replica. The only way you could have got a targa countach was by building a replica of a countach unless he modified the roof himself. next time ask him to pop the hood, you'll know then if its a replica or not. If it was one built by North American exotic replica's then id say you might second guess it.
To clarify, I think this car is supposed to be a Diablo VT. It says VT on the back. One thing that I wondered about was the stickers (I assume trying to look like Lambo official stickers) on the passenger panel where the door shuts into. It looked overdone - then as I've looked at some photos of real ones, I don't see any of the "stickerage" inside the passenger door. Is there any on the driver's side in the Lambo? I know my Ferrari has a VIN sticker inside the drivers side.
The stickers should be on the driver's side door, not on the door jam. A couple stickers on the bottom and maybe one on the side that meets the door jam. I don't know very much about Lamborghinis either but that's the ways it's been on all the Diablos that I've photographed.
Take a picture or two. I could use a good laugh. Someone that crafts one of those things with their bare hands and does a reasonable job gets some respect. If you just wrote a check for a cheap knockoff, you get nothing.
Here are a couple of photos of a real Diablo VT Roadster. You can see where the stickers are located on the bottom of the door. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
IT'S A REPLICA... But why didn't you just ask him if you couldn't tell? 2001 Diablos were 6.0's... They did not have "targa tops" and have gated shifters, not leather boots. All those repro stickers can be bought of the net. Yeah, take some pics... Those replicas are always good for a laugh!
Did you notice an increase in income, or does he have the ability to move up from a 20K Countach to a 100K+ Diablo?
Funny you mention that. This guy is the talk of the neighborhood. My neighborhood is definitely nice, but this guy really sticks out. He has a tree trimming business, and he keeps all of his trucks and equipment surrounding his home, much to the chagrin of the neighbors. There are laws against this but the city won't enforce unless someone formally sues, etc. Anyway, the guy has this pimped out black Hummer, bought his girlfriend a black H3 to match, has an older Mercedes SL roadster, had a black replica Countach, and bling bling Lincoln pickup truck with all the trimmings. His backyard has those fake palm trees in it, and his front yard is fully of cheesy yard statues, etc. You can only imagine what the neighbors think the guy is up to. And they may well be right.
Well I am going to guess its a fake but if it is real I see some deferred maintenance in its future...
OK, does this look like a Lambo motor? Sorry, I don't know Lambos too well. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm not even sure that **** is even from a car. I'm thinking maybe "Wheel Horse" or "Cub Cadet". I'll bet it makes a real pretty sound too!
He's probably financing all those other pimped rides while everything in his house is probably on a credit card. A decent lamborghini replica can easly rival the cost of a real lambo so you still need a good paying JOB or one hell of a shop. What really pisses me off about these guys are they won't come clean and just say its a replica, they always want you to play the guessing game. If ever I decide to build a lambo replicar I wouldn't bullsh1t and lie hell i wouldn't even slap lambo badges on the car at that.
Are the palm tree fronds/leaves small and look similar to the Canadian maple leaf? If so, I think I know how he is affording all those toys... LOL
Thats the same engine in my fiero which is a POS!. if your going to do a lamborghini replica, atleast give it some balls and drop in a Northstar where the car will be powerfull.
