To all the 612 owners: tell me about your experience with 612 so far.
I bought my 612 this past June and it definately is the ultimate production Ferrari. I have had the pleasure to drive a few ferraris and a passenger in many....but the 612...is just a step above. My reasons are simple...V12!!! 540+HP....0-62 in 4.2sec....4 SEATS!!!!! Also it is a real gentlemans car...lots of class...very racy and the most divine chasis of a car its size. It makes sport cars seem a little blah...and slightly boring...when the guy next to you at a light is bouncing around...with barely enough room for his sunglasses...and is fighting his car to get the most out it....in a 612....its effortless performance...actually the easiest ferrari i have ever driven...and driven fast. It also is ver practical. I looked for this car for a while before I bought it....here are some pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I drove a 612 for the first time yesterday-- wow! I think the thing that impressed me the most was the stiffness of the car, and yet for such a big car it still felt remarkably light. Even more than the 456, it really seemed to shrink once I started driving it. I found the entire package to be very compelling-- as it should be, given how much it costs! The only disappointment I noticed was that the trunk seemed a bit small, coming out of the 456. I'm a bit concerned about how my wife will be able to fit all her stuff in there!
No its called "Bordeaux Pontevecchio" Look up the Maserati quatroportte color chart....its a special request sample. The color was given to the factory as a customer option...here is my color tag of my car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow...! I would love to know the serial number of that 612...! It's got to be the only Bordeaux Pontevecchio 612 in the world...! Beautiful...!
Just perfect! In a few years, when you're ready to move up to the 612's successor, I'll have my checkbook in hand.
This car makes a Bentley GT look tacky and played out, there just something so classy and gangster about a Ferrari 2+2!
" You can also purchase any of the three, plus a six-figure sports car like a V8 Vantage, an M6 or a 911 to boot for the price of a base 612, but it's the Ferrari that delivers the interactivity that these others can't. For the Grand Touring car that truly does it all, there's only one the 612 Scaglietti." www.carpages.ca
The 612 is wonderful as the proverbial continent-crushing grand tourer, yet it handles disturbingly well for such big and heavy car (simply hit the F1-S and Sport buttons to spice things up). It's biggest shortcoming (pun intended) is that the trunk is ridiculously small; we're talking bespoke luggage, or soft duffle bags only. Sadly, ours has been in the workshop for multiple transmission failures and work on a stubborn spot of under-paint corrosion that has been plaguing one of the doors (it came from the factory like this). But what are you going to do, right? It's a Ferrari, after all Happy motoring!
I'm having transmission trouble with mine also. The transission failure light keeps coming on when I stop shortly after I start the car and the gear changes are very sloppy. It was seeming to go away after 10-15 minutes of driving, but now it doesn't go away. It kind of feels like there was no fuid in the transmission at start up and it took a while for the fluid to cycle into the system, I don't know. It's in the shop now for the second time. The first time they replaced a sensor, that worked for a few days then it came back.
I am sorry to hear about the F1 transmission problems in a few of the 612s. On the other hand, it validates my decision to get a 6-speed since I plan to keep mine for a while. This brings up the question about out-of-warranty repair costs for late model F1 transmissions. Anyone have any experiences to share?
It's happened to us 3 times now, our 612 seems to spend more time in the shop rather than on the road... In fact it got so bad that I ended up requesting to speak to one of the technical personnel while we were visiting the factory (which we did). It seems to have held together since the last repair, bar some jarring in 1st gear at low speeds when the 'box is cold. Good luck with yours. Morgie - Good choice. Sorry, no experience with out-of-warranty repairs... Can't be pretty though, given my experience with in-warranty repairs, ha ha.
Sorry to here about the gear box probs guys. Through out my ownership I have to say..car has been great...no box, electrical, or mechanical. Hope it stays that way. Good Luck!
Did they tell you that they could'nt replicate the problem? That's what they told me tues afternoon. I can't believe it.
Yeah, it's the stupidest thing... typical case of a car breaking down, and subsequently healing itself when it gets anywhere near the dealership... It's been in the shop 3 times for the same problem! The 3rd time appears to have been the proverbial charm (touch wood) though in this case. I can certainly empathize with you, it's been incredibly frustrating to have to constantly fight to get a glaringly obvious problem solved, especially when the price of entry on these cars is so darn high. Best of luck with your woes.
In light of your experiences, would you recommend getting a 612 with the manual gearbox, or is the F-1 set up just so good, it's worth the grief?
