It wasn't a bad job or at least for me it wasn't. Just a bit time consuming. I got it done in about 8 hours. I took my time and ran errands also.

My throw out bearing went bad and it would squeal real bad when you pushed the clutch in. So I decided to save myself some money and do it myself.

I must have had the original one in it because the new one was heavier and seemed to be better built than the old one. I got hooked up through a dealer friend on my bearing, but I do want to mention that Daniel at Ricambi parts was responsive to me when all others didn't show. So hopefully I can do business with him in the future. I highly recommend him!

Basically you had to remove the lower bumper panel, exhaust system, disconnect some wires and pull off the bell housing. Then you had to pull the old thrust bearing out. I also replaced the two lower orings on the bottom by the drive shaft. My car is running great now and the new bearing is doing it's job great! Changing the clutch out in this car when it's time to do it will be a sinch!

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Adam,

Very cool as usual. For a new guy on Fchat, your posts are that of a veteran.

Now, if you would like to document an engine out service with pix, my TR is available.

BTW, where did the O rings go?

Also, did the bearing come as a unit?

Do you just slide the old one off and slide the new one on....or did you need to use a bearing puller?

Oh, and while you're at it, can you solve our TR fusebox issues...:)

I didn't get too detaild on this project because of time. But I will have a web site up with detail instructions on Lambos, Vipers and Ferraris soon.

To answer your question, The bearing pretty much slides out. There's a retainer pin that you will need to take off the old one and put it on the new one. You can resuse the springs if they are in good shape. If not pretty much any ACE hardware store would have the springs. The Orings went on the lower left hand part of the bell housing. It's where the drive shaft goes into the differential. The orings that I used I bought a box for $5.00 for 500 hundred metric size rings. Funny thing, it's the exact same stuff that Ferrari uses and Lambo except not anywhere near the cost.

I would think the fuse box issues wouldn't be too hard of a project to do, it would just be very time consuming and finding the right connectors which I am sure it's not hard to find. Has anyone looked at Jacob's electronics? They usually have a wide selction of electrical parts. I would figure you make your board with the right connectors and map it out with doing one wire at a time.

As soon as my Lambo engine goes back in, my 512 TR engine is coming out for clean up and many nice things to come.

Excellent post Adam.....Thank You on behalf of TR and 512TR owners everywhere !!!

I'm happy to see the drop gears can be left attached to the bell housing and the whole works removed as a unit. Too bad you couldn't make our little gathering and drive yesterday....but I can see you have been quite busy. Hopefully some day.....

Excellent, excellent post! Thanks for all the effort, trouble & time! You will help many enthusiast in the future! Including me! Thanks again!
I've been meaning to ask you if the early Diablos had engine out services like the TR and any weird things like broken differential housing etc?

    Good post and pics Adam!
Pretty much the same steps as I did with my Boxer, and yes, the clutch change is a snap once you're this far.

What material composition are the o-rings you used. If they are exposed to heat or oils, viton o-rings are superior and cost nearly twice as much, but are good insurance against needless replacement.
