Burned 308 value?

There looks to be only about 7 parts on that car that made it. I would write them down and call Rutlands to see what they would cost over there. Whatever that total is is more than the whole car is worth. IOW, once you paid to drag it home, you will already be in a hole you can't crawl out of if you wanted to.

 

The spare tire hold down bolt seems to be OK I think the good Dr is being generous at 7 parts. Maybe some of the front suspension bits and pieces but man that thing is TOASTED! It's too bad but I really don't see much that's usable at all!

 

Hmmm..... I dont think so, more like 30 year old original fuel lines cracked........

For $3,200 I'd consider it for parts. The right guy could sure have a head start on a cheap track car.

 

If you could buy it for like $5K max, you could take it and strip it and I mean strip it down less front and rear bodywork and eBay everything except the cab and doors and VIN plate and lower your basis in the car to lets say $2K... It would be a good race car candidate for $2K... From there it would need a lot of money. What I would do if money was no object would be to go for some 308 race car bodywork maybe even in carbon fiber...and go for a hot engine and tranny...

Some of you guys are being a bit unrealistic. While the chassis is certainly hosed for a street car, a roll cage would make it a good strong track car. As far as the rest it still has full suspension components, uprights, drive axles, and a good gearbox and engine short block, headers, brakes, etc.. The heads may even be found to be useable once its apart, though the cams are probably junk. It would even be a good start for a 288 clone. I'm still waiting to see someone turn a 308 into an F-40 clone, this would be a good starter if someone had an open checkbook.

 

I just think there are cheaper ways to get a track 308 than this

 

That car is a prime example of 30 year old fuel lines, alot of these 308 fires can be prevented by changing the fuel lines!!!

 

I would not count on anything in the motor being of use. Aluminum blocks do not like high heat.

True. Honestly, this would be a good car for someone who wanted a Ferrari and did not have a lot of money.... Hear me out: Like I said, you buy the car cheap and gut it and eBay all of the scraps. It looks like the radiator might still be okay. The whole front clip looks usable so you sell this and other things and lets say you basically get the rolling cab, doors and VIN plate for nothing after the smoke clears. From there as you get time and money, you build the roll cage including working on the frame etc. and continue on in buying the fiberglass or carbon-fiber bodywork. Once you have a rolling car, you at just that point already really have something really special even with no mechanicals... I've for sure seen people buy other Ferraris that were much worse money pits than this car.

 

Here's a burned GTB that's been rebodied into a GTO that sold for $32K with no engine. Do you guys see the old 77 GTB in the background. That car was a great race car candidate too that sold for $3K about a year ago....

Unfortunately we havnt seen the end of these for a quite a while yet. Outside of the ones that are gone, I truly wonder how many, even among Fchat subscribers, have fuel lines that are not more than 7 years old. The 308 isnt any different than a vintage V-12. Pour raw fuel all over a hot engine with bad ignition wires and you can start any car on fire. Keep the key turned on feeding power to the fuel pump, and you too can have a 308 that looks like this in no time at all. Funny, well not really, but lately everytime I see another burned 308 I hear that Queen song.

Seriously, this is at least the 7th or 8th 308 I seen this year that burned. I wonder what the actual worldwide loss rate on these cars really is right now, figuring fires, accidents, neglected and broken cars, and the ones that arent really that bad, but get cut up anyway. 10 per week?

 

It's sometimes hard to convince people that they need to change things and they learn the hard way. When I bought my 308 last year I had it shipped home everybody at work thought I was nuts for not driving it home 600 miles my reply 30 year old car. Well if I drove it home I would have lost it because of a fuel leak the showed up when I got it delivered all the fuel lines were original. I have a relative right now with a 79 308 that has original fuel lines and I told him they need to be changed his reply my car only has 23000 miles on it they don't need to changed this one will be another one we'll read about soon. He knows ZERO about cars I did convince him to get the cam belts changed 4 years ago after he got it done he said He's good for 15 yrs I said No 3 to 5 years I got a blank look. Because of owners like this more of these will disappear and ours will be worth more.

I thought this part was funny I wonder if the car was detailed too...before the fire.

 

Where was it serviced so we'll know where NOT to go?
