    Guys,

Thought I would post my experience with getting a hold of a lost alarm code -moral of the story, don't lose it. Never know when this info might come in handy for someone:

    - Agreed to purchase of car from F-car dealer
    - Dealer indicated (upfront) that car only has one key and one black fob
    - Came to terms with dealer on getting second key and new set of fobs (one red, two black)
    - Alarm code cannot be located, therefore new fobs can't be programmed. Note: Car must be present to program fobs, so this delayed delivery
    - FNA claims they can't get codes
    - Dealer contacts Ferrari in Italy and they do have the code
    - Italy won't provide code either by phone or e-mail due to "security" reasons
    - Code gets mailed to dealer by Italy, all is now good

Net/net: Glad I had this sorted out before taking delivery. Would be a pain without dealer nearby. Car comes Saturday (very good). I know there are some posts that suggest that if the alarm code is lost, a new ECU may be needed. This doesn't appear to be the case.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Good post, my buddy was in the same position so I'll give another scenario. He had the code, but it wouldn't work so he couldn't reprogram the new fobs. Had to replace the alarm ECU ($1700). There are two Motronic ECU's in addition to the Alarm ECU. One side holds the Alarm ECU code. If you replace the Alarm ECU, you have to swap positions of the Motronic ECU's so that you can "write" the new code to the Motronic ECU that was previously "unwritten."

If for some reason you swap the Motronic ECU's, and you cannot write a new code, that means a previous owner has already written the second ECU. So, in this case you have to buy 1 new Motronic ECU and write the new Alarm ECU code onto it. The new Motronic ECU is around $2400 IIRC. Fortunately, my buddy didn't have to buy a new Motronic ECU (unfortunately, he had to buy another Alarm ECU to replace his faulty one that wouldn't recognize his alarm code).
